Reading some of the replies on here, I’m not sure if I’m being savvy, stupid, or selfish.
I’ve ‘stockpiled’ for as long as I can remember. A habit acquired from the parents, although for different reasons. I've still got a 30KG+ rice stockpile from last year, along with a good supply of wholewheat pasta/spaghetti.
My main focus over the last few weeks has been bread flour & cereals/muesli. Although I'm not expecting a shortage here, I'm sure the situation in Ukraine will push global prices up, whether or not they manage to grow anything this year.
As for loo rolls, I bought a ‘lifetime supply’ back in 2017, or at least thought I had. Looking now, I’ve only got enough to last about another 4 years.

I'm actually working my way through some of the 'forgotten stuff' in my food cupboards . I did buy some extra flour last week though . I like to have plenty in stock as I cook biscuits and cakes for my grandchildren.
My tinned stock of pilchards are going down nicely to reasonable levels once more I do like them mixed with some Mayo in a salad or on a jacket spud.
I'm not much of a cereal eater, but I did buy some extra porridge oats, but then I also use it in biscuits and a handful into Mince when I'm cooking shepards pies
I'm not fussed about sunflower oil as I only use it spareingly anyway. but I do like a good stock of spices, and like to keep them topped up7 -

My "extras" consist of staples that have long shelf dates (rice, pasta, oats, pulses etc) that can be used to pad out meals and are relatively inexpensive. I'm slowly building these up again by buying one or two extras on each shopping trip so I don't really notice the cost too much. I also like to have a decent stock of tins of fish (sardines, pilchards, tuna) and meat (eg corned beef) as they're useful stand-by's. The lock downs showed me what we tend to eat/use most and that's been a useful exercise in deciding what or what not to buy.Be kind to others and to yourself too.8 -

Yes, I've noticed the price of bread going up lately, and today my 4 pints of milk went up to £1.25. I do wonder how much of it is the supermarkets taking the opportunity and how much actually goes to the suppliers.2025 Fashion on the ration

I find it hard to believe they didn't have any bread flour at all - maybe it was the picker who didn't know the difference. I hope it was the latter as I don't relish the thought of being on the "hunt the flour" merry-go-round again. I bake a lot - bread, cakes, scones, biscuits etc - and hardly ever buy ready made, partly because of the cost and partly because we prefer home made ie I know what's gone into it and you get more for your dosh into the bargain.
Not that it matters much. Due to a previous overstocking hiccough, I'm still using some WM flour dated last July, and it's still good.

I don't like using very out of date flour, I was struggling to get my toad in the hole to rise and discovered the flour was several months out of date. Since using newer flour I've got lovely fluffy yorkshire batter.
