Oil prices

  • One local supplier is now quoting 140ppl, another 106ppl,
Some are refusing to quote and others not guaranteeing the price so customers need to pay the price difference between order and delivery.

I'm in the same position - tank lasted through the winter and normally would wait till spring /summer to top up. Not quite dry yet but a cold March will see the tank go dry.
But how do you think Putin is paying for his war? His venture into Ukraine is bleeding Russia daily of billions of roubles, but he's raking in a fortune to pay for the war in gas and oil he's selling to us. Sanctions? Yes, but not (yet) for energy products we rely on....
Prices here will remain high and go higher unless either the war ends or the Americans start shippng shale gas and oil to Europe in significantly larger quantities.

Had ours delivered yesterday (ordered a couple of weeks ago), delivery driver said they have an order book full for weeks now and new orders are getting towards an easter delivery. They are now only taking exact volume orders (used to take tank fill orders) but are so busy they can't risk the tanker running out before the delivery run is complete as they cannot cope with re-schedules in the system.

I notice Boilerjuice today is 170.95p/l. Had an email from my supplier yesterday (having ordered from them Saturday) to reassure customers with outstanding orders that these will be fulfilled within the timescales and at the price quoted. Thay also said they were not taking on new customers, having seen a 5x increase in enquiries, many from people who have been let down by their usual sources

Boiler Juice will no longer quote me so can't see their prices. I suspect the next problem will be an increase in thefts of oil as time goes on

I reckon I have enough oil to last through until May/June, but does anyone know if letting the oil in a tank run too low cause any problems?

If you have any water in the bottom of the tank that gets sucked through the pipe, you could have an issue. But nothing usually fatal, once you've had the boiler cleaned out.

I have enough under normal use to see me until late April.   However, we have cut the hours the heating is on and turned it down and are running three woodburners instead to try and eek it out.   If I can get it to warmer months then it barely uses anything for hot water.   By then, the panic buying should be over and the price falling back.
