  • Blackcats, definitely clever owners and clever boy C!  Also am pleasantly surprised by the dog behaviourist, sounds like they knew what they were talking about despite my doubts.  Onwards and upwards for ladyholly and her gang of three xx

We too were surprised the behaviourist seems knowledgeable. C is clever but I am not so sure about his owners.
  • A lovely positive update.  My DDs border collie likes her crate too.  They have a busy household with two young children and two cats so she sees that as her safe quiet space.  The door is always left open and she goes in willingly.  Sounds like the behaviourist was useful.

Not the most exciting day. C and I got soaked when we went out this morning although the rain cleared later. On the advice of the bahaviorist we are using a slip lead on him which wouldnt normally be my first choice but it seems to be working better than I expected at keeping him a bit more under control. Last night he did try to steal a pizza from a man delivering to one of our neighbours who was carrying to the front of him. It must have smelt wonderful.  One of the things we have bought for him is a lick mat.We tried it last night with some youghurt and soft cheese when he came back from his night time walk and he appeared to really enjoy it. It is supposed to be a calming activity after a stressful situation. It is such a shame that he finds the outside world so difficult. It is a similar situation we had with Miss W but in her case she was very withdrawn and backed away , in his he bcomes hyperactive and moves forward. Same cause we suspect ( lack of socialisation, little if any experience of the outside world etc) but different reaction.

Other than dog walking I havent been out today as my knees have been very painful - not sure if its the arthritis or be pulled by C has pulled something so trying to rest it as much as possible. I have done some listing for ebay and sold another item - assuming it is paid for. I have started a shopping list for next week, I tend not to meal plan as Mr LH will suddenly decide he isnt eating or I dont feel well enough to cook so as long as I have the ingredients for 8 meals plus things like sausages in the freezer, plenty of bacon, egg etc I can manage to create something edible. 8 meals gives me a choice depending on how much time I want to spend cooking.

Well enough wittering for one day. Happy Saturday.

Not been on for a couple of day as we have been trying to decide what to do with C. Last week he started growling at Mr LH then this morning C growled and lunged towards his face. If Mr LH hadnt been quick and aware of the body language he wouild have been bitten. Thiis made the decision for us. For our safety he is being returned to the rescue tomorrow. It would have been today but we couldnt get hold of the correct person until late this afternoon. We are so upset as his training was starting to show results and except for seeing cats the barking and lunging has become much less. We have now learned one or two more things about him which I wont detail here but it explains a lot of his behaviours. Its just a shame that we didnt have the full story when we met him as we wouldnt have considered adopting him. They really should disclose all information before rehoming the dogs.

The person answering the phone at the rescue was extremely rude when I rang her the secod time to ask her to phone the rehoming person and told me that if we couldnt look after a dog we shouldnt adopt one. She knows nothing about us or I suspect the dog so I was fuming. I just put the phone down as I couldnt think a suitable reply that didnt involve a lot of bad language but I did tell the behaviurist who I had informed of the decision who then told the kennel staff who were, apparently, equally angry.

At the moment Mr LH has lost confidence and says he doesnt want another dog but I hope this will change in time. If we do get another one we will make sure it doesnt have too many problems and it will definitely not come from that rescue.

On a different tack only 2 of the items I "sold " over the weekend have been paid for. The thing that is really annoying is that one of them was sold because they made an offer on so it has stopped anyone else buying it  until it can be cancelled. Why put in an offer if you cant be bothered to pay for it or at least contact the seller to say you have changed your mind.

Nothing else I can say for tonight but hope others have had a better day than us.

Biggest hugs for you. My sister had a rescue dalmation who was fine with everyone that was in the house when he arrived but then bit any visitors so he had to go back. It's awful that people are so cruel to dogs and that other people are left to try and pick up the pieces. I think you've made the right decision though.

Oh I’m so sorry to hear this. I really hoped things were turning a corner. No one can say you haven’t tried and I know the decision won’t have been made lightly.

So sorry to hear this and as others have said, you did your absolute best for C. It’s so sad when these things don’t work out and it was obviously a very difficult decision. Sending you all the best
