Offer accepted but we don’t want the hot tub

The owners expected us to snap their hands off when they offered to sell us their hot tub. We don’t want it. It’s not our thing and it’s taking up valuable space. I would like to say that we either want them to take it with them or actually knock some money off to cover the cost of taking it away if we can’t sell it, as it’s such a bulky thing. Having met them a couple of times, I suspect they will be offended and think that we’re being dishonest and trying to get a free hot tub, and that this will sour the negotiations. A quick search on the web suggests that people do buy second hand hot tubs. I wouldn’t fancy a used one, but then I wouldn’t fancy a new one either, so what would I know about it?! What’s the etiquette with pricey large items that you really don’t want in a new house?

Just say thanks but no. You’re under no obligation to buy it and they can either take it with them, sell it privately, or leave it.2006 LBM £28,000+ in debt.

Is the hot tub included in the asking price? If not, you just say no you don't want it, when they list it in the items you can buy.
If it is included you could say you are offering xyz but don't want the hot tub, so they can take it if they want. If they leave it, then just sell it on. With the purchaser collecting.Forty and fabulous, well that's what my cards say....3 -

Asking for money off is a no-no. You saw the property, hot tub and all, and you offered. Is this hot tub free-standing? Easy to take out? In which case it's really an extra open to negotiation. You want it, you buy it; you don't want it you don't buy it.Or built in and a nightmare to remove. It's part of the property and usually therefore included. Up toyou to remove it after to purchase.8

Our neighbours had one delivered and the bloody thing needed a crane to get it in an out if you really don’t want it you need to insist they remove it hopefully as the poster above says it’s not inbuilt otherwise it’s part of the fixtures and fittings, if it’s freestanding then it’s junk and they need to get rid of it before they can claim they’ve given you vacant possession.2

Insist that it is removed. Get the sellers to confirm that it will be gone when you move in.I am the Cat who walks alone2

I can see the next thread already:"Seller Completed but failed to remove hot tub - can I charge them the cost of the crane needed?"19

Are you buying through an estate agent?
If so, if you think the sellers will be offended or difficult about this - you can just tell the estate agent the issues, and let them tell the seller in whatever way they think is best.
It's part of an Estate Agent's job to deal with problems like this, and keep the sale on track.

it sounds from the first post as though the vendors are expecting to sell the hot tub separately - easy in such cases to say no thanks, more difficult if already included in the purchase0
