Diagnostic charges these days seem to be a rip-off.
Personally I think greed has taken over.
Some of us don't want to spend more than 10% of our salaries on a car so have to do our own repairs. I have done that since I was 11 working on my motorbikes and not going to change now. It is not rocket science"The Holy Writ of Gloucester Rugby Club demands: first, that the forwards shall win the ball; second, that the forwards shall keep the ball; and third, the backs shall buy the beer." - Doug Ibbotson0 -
Yes, Diag fee 1 hours labour, cost of sensor plus 1 hours labour. Diagnostics isn't simply a plug in and get a response, they will also test other systems that are connected as they could be the cause of the fault and the sensor itself could have been fine
Lets just agree to disagree as to the validity of diagnostic fees1 -
Be better to agree not to talk codswallop.0

Very clear divide in views between people in the trade/ex trade and the punter. Not surprised"The Holy Writ of Gloucester Rugby Club demands: first, that the forwards shall win the ball; second, that the forwards shall keep the ball; and third, the backs shall buy the beer." - Doug Ibbotson0

Why are you editing people's posts? I fully understand how business work, that's why I am calling it out. The diagnostic fee is a double charge. Why do some garages waive it if they get the business while others don't?"The Holy Writ of Gloucester Rugby Club demands: first, that the forwards shall win the ball; second, that the forwards shall keep the ball; and third, the backs shall buy the beer." - Doug Ibbotson0

I have never paid a main dealer for any work. Had a warranty repair where they broke my car. I use a couple of independents occasionally. One of them is good at suspension noises. My wife normally takes it in. They have done work for free. Otherwise they tell you a diagnosis and price for free. Normally just tell them to go ahead. I can only imagine that the main dealer prices are so high that people would just take them elsewhere so main dealer's have to charge for everything.0
