Fixed tariff ending - no offer of another fixed tariff by supplier

Options
I know there is an energy crisis on, but I've read about other people being contacted by their supplier within a few weeks of their fixed tariff ending and being offered another fixed deal. Of course these deals they're being offered are more expensive than the price cap variable rate, but to be honest I'd rather be on a fixed rate and have the security of it being fixed for another year than the uncertainty of being on the variable price cap. If it helps I'm with shell energy.

My gas supplier will offer me a 12 month fixed rate tariff for £18pm more than for the SVR (£63pm more than the £44pm I am paying them at the moment!). My electricity supplier will offer me a 12 month fixed rate tariff at same rates as the SVR. Neither of those is Shell Energy. I am seriously considering the latter, and even asking whether they will take on my gas supply on same basis.

Shell have not been offering any fixed tariffs for a few months now, and with the current turmoil I doubt they will start again soon.

If my current provider won't offer me any fixes then, do you know if I can get a fix from another provider?

I wish shell would offer me this as it sounds like such an amazing deal. Who are you with? I'm wondering whether I should contact them and ask if they would consider offering me a deal.

EON.Next are offering fixed for one year at the same rate as the SVR with effect from 1 April. They are only offering this to existing customers.

Yes, you can go elsewhere, but the 'loyal' fixed tariffs are not usually offered to new customers, so you are unlikely to be happy with the fixed tariffs they offer to those wanting to switch.

Remember (currently, at least), the price is "fixed" for 6 months from April.. You're just doubling the length and gambling against the October rise. If that's right for you, then go for it of course.
  • I’m going to stay with EDF on their SVT when my fix expires and wait and see how the coming months play out. I never imagined when I took out the tariff 2 years ago that electric would have got so expensive.

I was looking at this earlier for myself, but the contract terms give SP the right to cancel the contract whenever they want with 42 days notice!
