It said 'average'. Some will have more and some will have less.

Just sitting in my study I can tot up to 25 in here alone without a problem (although not all plugged in I hasten to add).  I reckon in total, including the stuff in the garage and shed and sitting unused in the loft, I could easily to get to over 150 items that are or could be plugged in so an average of 41 doesn't seem at all out of line.
  • This is starting to go "off piste"
We started talking about standbye power use and now we are discussing total numbers of electrical equipment that may or may not be plugged in.....

If I was half as smart as I think I am - I'd be twice as smart as I REALLY am.

BBC News - ‘Vampire devices’ cost UK households £147 a year
    Incorrect facts
I am surprised that it doesn't accuse the in home display of costing £12 per year to run
    I mean that's almost £3 a week or 10kWh a week - way out!

Main man Martin was on radio 5 today in afternoon , He too does not believe the figures about vampire devices given by British Gas.. Said some older devices may use more but says his team are investigating it.
And if he had to give some kind of cost it would be £50 ish. Not £147
What I will say is that since turning everything off at the socket when Avro went under, except the fridge, freezer and router, I will be using over 800 kWh's less electric per year. My usage before I did this was 2100 kWh per year it has now dropped to an estimated 1350 kWh per year. My appliances are not the latest tech but many were either A++ or B rated when I bought them but now they are down to F or G rated.
Someone please tell me what money is

Similar experience here but the router goes off for 9hrs overnight giving us a  2w background  overnight + fridge & freezer, our drop in usage has been huge & we're now paying less than  Sept last yr , svr to svr. This first month of svr E7 should come in at under £36 all inclusive.

Having just returned from a few days away, so everything possible* turned off in the house, for 3 full 24 hour periods, we still used 1.37kwh of electricity a day (but no gas**), the cost of which (including both standing charges) was £1.17 per day.

House was 12c on our return.   4 nights / 3 days unheated.

So that's an annual cost of £427, or £35 a month, without even being here!!!!  (we're on Eon V12, not the cap)

*only Sky Box, Fridge/freezer plus hard wired items (alarm etc) left on, using an average draw of 57 watts.

** Good job, otherwise we've got a leak!!!
How's it going, AKA, Nutwatch? - 12 month spends to date = 2.60% of current retirement "pot" (as at end May 2025)

Don't forget even if you aren't there to add on your gas standing charge of what £85-90? Even though you weren't using gas the SC was still spending your hard earned money.

Interesting that the house went down to 12oC
