Your TV should have a usb socket, in that case what about a usb Bluetooth transmitter to transmit audio from your TV to the headphones, less than a tenner from Amazon.

OK, for the D/A converter, the cheapest on Amazon is this one, but it has no volume control, so you would need to buy headphones with an inline volume control in the lead.

What style of headphones do you want? Over-ear, covering the ear? Earbuds, which fit into the ear canal? You need to choose. Pick this style, and get a pair with a plug size which matches the socket on your chosen D/A converter.

Good summary but not sure why the OP needs a long optical cable - could the OP not get a transmitter with a remote control and sit it next to the TV (short optical cable) and the supplied remote used to change the volume?

In fact, @Cisco001 suggested a unit quite a few posts ago and my subsequent post told to OP exactly how to connect it...

I asked the OP if he was happy with a wired connection and he said Yes. 

I'm not saying wired is mandatory, and he could get a wireless solution if he wants.

You'll need an optical cable long enough to reach your viewing chair, see my link above.

You'll need a power socket close to the chair to power it, but it comes with power lead. 

Headphones will have their own lead. Anything with the correct plug size to match the D/A converter, but you can get adaptors if you want others.
