Slight out of date but don’t use E10 PETROL, especially on newer cars

I've just driven up the Autobahn in Germany at around 130-140mph in places, but mostly cruising at about 120 where the limit allowed (or non-limit as the case may be) on E10 fuel. It was all good. For 15 years old, it performed well. Nothing fell off. Nothing stopped working. Nothing seized. Most 'problems' on any of the vehicles you've experienced were likely problems already, and timing means it's easy to blame it on the fuel.

Anyone here experienced this "trouble"?   02 Astra, no problems.
Now a gainfully employed bassist again - WooHoo!
  • I've never understood the argument that running your tank low introduces sediment to the supply. The take off for the fuel must be at the bottom of the tank else you'd end up with unusable fuel. In any case, the motion of a car even on the smoothest road would surely keep the tank contents nicely mixed?

An old wive's tale from a new poster? As for E10, my fuel filler cap even says E5/E10 on it.

There used to be some truth to it when cars had a separate reserve take off that was lower down the tank (and tanks more likely to corrode with poorer filters). It hasn't been true for cars for 50+ years though.
Some motorbikes until fairly recently do still have this arrangement though. My bike is from 2002 and has a separate take off for the reserve lower down the tank which you manually select.

    What can you say..
    Life in the slow lane
  • Maybe they decided that as the Express/Daily Mail had not tried running down E10 lately that they had to do so. :)
