I’ve given up ..for now !
I just purchased some p f e tape as recommended by my local friend ..who’s coming over on fri/sat 😬

laying on my back and on my knees more than Katie price is painful , and the tendons in my hands are packing up for the moment .
Just trying to wok out how many Guinness / cider I owe my friend 😬

If your friend is remotely DIY competent, then this will/should be a breeze to fix.
I'd suggest they start again - take the McAlp off, dismantle it to check how it's been put together, and reassemble ideally with some lube - washing-up liquid will do if you don't have sili grease.

Those click clack plugs arent the greatest.
With the plug  removed, grip the rod with pliers and turn anticlockwise.
    It should unscrew.
This will give you access to clear the build up of crap. One of these are useful for long hairs.

Well I had another go today . I looked on various you tube vids and found out what I believe is the problem ! The rubber washer will not go around the waste pipe!

looking at the photos , you may hopefully believe that is the problem ..and not my stupidity.

Briefly ;  Put outlet nut over waste pipe , followed by plastic washer and conical rubber washer ensuring the shampered edge faces trap outlet . ( spelling .)
Hand tighten . The rest I know !

The blue rubber washer is the problem as it just doesn’t fit !

Looks like I have to hunt down the right size .
Hopefully some here can point me in the right direction, and convince me my sanity hasn’t been lost ..Picture 4 sums up the problem

The top photo is the instruction from you tube vid . A little blurry ..
The blue washer that I’m holding is the equivalent of the black one in the vid

Did this , but the rubber seal doesn’t go over wastepipe. For some reason rubber seal is blue as in photo ..

The rubber seal doesn’t fit !

just did exactly as you advised again and it’s the rubber seal that is not fitting
  • The rubber seal is too small to go onto waste pipe . Is there another size I can purchase ?
    The fitting I have is 1 1/4 “ x 75 mm.

A step back, AC - it's tricky to follow your photos.
That BLUE RUBBER SEAL - where did it come from? Is it from the original trap/fittings, or from the new MaAlp you bought?
Either way, surely if it CAME 'fitted', it'll still 'fit'? Isn't it 'rubbery'? Flexible? Won't it stretch?
    I don't understand :-(
  • Fixed !!
What the problem was …the black washer that was in the fitting was / is supposed to come out of the tube going into the wastepipe !
As the washer was already in the fitting I assumed it should remain there .🤦🤦
I has to get that out with a screwdriver.
Once I did that , everything that should’ve been done now is .

@plumb1_2 must have  been calling me a plumb and understandably so😬

Still, I have given entertainment again 😬

Now if there were instructions and the black washer was not in the wrong place this job would’ve been done in a few mins.

    Thanks anyway!😼
