Just by another clicker waste and mcalpine trap. Also. Some clear silicone for bedding the waste.
I would also bin the flexible washer that comes with the waste and buy a solid washer.
And remove the excess silicone before it sets.

Are you suggesting bedding the plug waste mech? I have only ever had issues when others did. My aunt had issues becuase it was bedded and after removing all the stuff (which was a horrible unneeded job) and fitting a new one without anything iut has been fine since.

Should you feel the need to bed (say in an old eneven sink) then plumber's mait or something non setting is the way to go.

Yes the hundreds of whb wastes I have fitted 99% haven’t leaked, the main issue I have had is the cheap plastic back nuts splitting, so I keep a few spare metal and brass back nuts.
when I first started as a apprentice we used to use putty and paint , and make our washers out of sheet lead. The good old days or was they?

The only time I use plumbers mate is for bedding down WC pans

    Hi A-C.
Likely too late now, but I'd have advised not going for another pop-up waste. They are prone to becoming sludged up with the spoils of waste water, and are tricky to clean because the mech is in the way. Also, as you found, they can stick.
What's the point of them, when you need to stick yer hand in the dirty water to operate them?
I'd personally have gone with (and i will be going with) either a normal plug with a wee hoop on it, or - if there's a securing point for a chain - a chain.
The actual white waste parts look fine and completely salvageable, so i doubt they'd need replacing. I would, tho', dismantle and clean them thoroughly - keeping a note of how the rings and washers fit - and then smear it all in silicone grease (every home should have a tube...) on reassembly.
The sealing kit shown by 47R above looks as tho' it should do the trick, and i think would be a good call here, but I usually just go for white silicone under the metal waste flange (and removing the supplied washer if it's visible or holds the chrome waste upwards too far) and ditto below - the nut's washer coated generously on both sides. Then, when fully tightened up, remove excess sili from around the nut, and wipe away as much of the sili from inside the basin as you can, leaving only the teeniest visible rim of sili around the chrome ring - that's all it needs to seal.
Almost certainly you can safely reuse your existing white plastic fittings.

  • Another problem !
Please bear in mind , I have a motor neurone condition and bending / lying on the floor multiple times was /is a pita in so many ways .

so, I decided to bite the bullet and this morning received the whole plastic unit .
It was easier to attach with more “ bite” on the rear pipe.
The water is still leaking .

    No instructions regarding MacAlpine asa10.
I know where the  thick black band goes, but for the life of me, cannot remember where the blue band goes .
water seems to be coming from rear pipe
    More help needed ..

That joint doesn't look tight enough - you can see a lot more of the thread than would normally be visible

Put the plastic nut on the pipe, then the blue ring, then the black washer, then connect the trap
