Anyeone with experience with RCI Bank?  My RBS fixed saver is ending and the new interest rate they've given me is  4.05%
I like RCI, they have a nice product  portfolio spanning instance access all the way up to 5 year fixed.

I currently utilise their 14 day notice Evolve account which gives a bit of an interest rate bump above many instance access accounts, but only locking you in for a couple of weeks. Importantly for me it pays interest monthly.

As the banking arm owned by  the Renault car group, they are able to leverage the finance rates they charge car buyers, to offer savers reasonably decent saving products.

Got a 2 year ending in Nov , no problems with them , they use the same online account system as some other banks.
If they give me a good rate in Nov would be happy to renew.

I keep reading about established YBS members being asked to go through ID checks and wondered if there is a commonality? Are people mistakingly or not selecting non-UK for some of the tax & residence questions?
Nope I definitely filled it out correctly. The last time I had an ID check from YBS but there was a specific reason for that (which I won't go into here). Perhaps they want to funnel everyone through the Mitek system at least once?

Interesting, thanks.   RBS went from having probably the best fixed rate when I opened the saver to maybe one of the worst now. :(

RCI Bank have cut the rates on most of their fixed rate accounts from 1 October. 2-year is now 4.4% (was 4.7%), 3-year now 4.2% (was 4.4%), 4 and 5-year now 3.8% (was 4.0%).
  •  I see Smart Save are now offering 4.82% AER for 1 year fixed. I'm thinking about this for an elderly relative so it needs to be simple. Can anyone who has recently opened an account with them please share experience ie. was extra documentation needed or app required etc?

I had a 1Yr fix with them last year. No App and a very basic website (it may have improved). Various maturity options. I decided to take the money and run at the end and the money showed up in my nominated account when they said it would. No frills, but no issues either. It just worked (for me at least, which is pretty unusual!)
  • Seems worth noting that Moneyfacts(compare) has a couple of 1 year fixes that appear at the top of their list, at 5.00%, that don't appear in the MSE list:
Conister Bank (Isle of Man outfit, FSCS covered, you need to go to the conisterbank.co.uk site, not .im )
Union Bank of India (also FSCS covered; its "savings account" page says they've just withdrawn the internet facility; but the "Premier Bond" page still talks about doing it all online - Welcome to Union Bank of India - Union Premier Bond (unionbankofindiauk.co.uk) )
