I've just opened a Charter Fix (not funded yet) and when I log in I see 2 things that trouble me a smidge.  Firstly, they say to make a payment to your fix from your nominated bank account using your account number and your surname as reference.  The account number already contains three letters of my surname - so do I add it in full also?

Secondly, I've opted for monthly interest paid to my nominated account (from where I'll move it to a regular saver or something) - but when I look at the details, the account number is wrong, in that they've added several leading 0s to the account number.  I know I entered it correctly as I both pasted it from a statement and checked it carefully on the review screen and it was right there.  Is that something I need to get sorted, or do they wait and clarify it from my initial deposit?

You should have received an email giving you details of how to pay by electronic payment.

    Pay a/c # 83495248
    Sort Code 20-19-90
    Payee- Charter Savings Bank
Reference (your 9 digit application number)-SURNAME

    Hope that works!

Thanks @JGB1955 - got the email and several other places where it mentions how to pay - but they all differ a little too - see below.  Actually on the site, once logged in, it says:

To send money directly from your Nominated Account, please use the following details:

    our Account Number: 83495248
our Sort Code: 20-19-90 (we partner with Barclays Bank to provide this service)
    payee: Charter Savings Bank
reference: (your application reference & surname) or (your account number & surname)

My question is that my account name - the name they've already given the account - already contains the first three letters of my surname, so do I basically repeat it?  So if my account no. were (random nos., not mine) JYTUUYDFH6788BLO - do I also add BLOGGS as well?  My email actually says "reference: your reference number* and Surname" but the details when I opened the account say "reference no - Surname" - you've pasted it without a space.   So is it a space, a dash or spaces and a dash?!

These inconsistencies - when dealing with potentially very large sums of money - drive me crackers.

I think you're supposed to use your account APPLICATION number, rather than your ACCOUNT number. I agree - totally confusing.  I think that if you use either it will end up in the right place.

I jumped too soon and went for Atom @ 5.7% monthly.  Was maxed out with Vanquish, so Charter would have been a better option. Trying to keep my number of 'providers' under 10, so will see what's available in 3 weeks time when my next lump sum becomes available.  Exciting times!

When I funded mine I just used 'JYTUUYDFH6788BLO' (I don't think there is any need to add BLOGGS) and all was OK.

    Charter!!!

Just a heads up in case better rates come along - Charter Bank do not do cooling off periods on their Fixed Rate Bond accounts...

Maybe worth waiting to fund it towards the end of the 14 days you have to pay money into it from account opening.

I'm hoping so.  It said somewhere to use the application reference until you got your account details - and it arrived very quickly, so I could potentially use either straight away.  I think I'll secure message them about my nominated bank account number - that's the more worrying. I won't fund the account if I can't rely on getting my monthly interest out reliably.

With the various Charter accounts I've had, I used the account number, which had 3 letters, 7 numbers, and the first 3 letters of my surname - e.g. EDC3326724BLA (fake account number).
