Gentle reminder for anyone who still has this "option" that d-day is tomorrow. I'm looking to take up the 3-year option at 4.85% AER as the funds are already in a limited access saver with them and everything else in place to make the internal transfer.intalex said:
If you had already opened but not yet funded Coventry's fixed rate (non-ISA) bonds, I've been informed by their live chat team that the window to deposit is until 11th November, i.e. not the usual 14 calendar days. That should cover the next BoE announcement, aftermath, and some more, before needing to make a decision...hallmark said:Coventry have withdrawn all their Fixed-rate ISAs. Going by their usual pattern they'll release a new bunch this week. They're usually pretty competetive.
Just trying to work out if I can wait until tomorrow to make the internal transfer, or whether their internal transfers also require making the request a day earlier (as they do for external withdrawals) - would be grateful for this answer if anyone has done this!
Edit: Got someone helpful on their live chat who confirmed internal transfers are instantaneous. Also asked if they have info on new releases - none so far, but they do get notice 24hours ahead, so will check again tomorrow (if anything in the pipeline for Monday release) and then execute the transfer thereafter if no better option.4 -
US inflation data today took the market by surprise. A fed cut is now an imaginable possibility. BoE looking silly...
US equities up 5%
UK/Europe equities up 3%
Swap rates down >0.2%
These fixed rates are really the best you are going to get. I would capitalise on these historic highs. In hindsight if I had any money left to save, I'd go for the longer 3,5 year fixes.Pensions actuary, Runner, Dog parent, Homeowner2 -
Gatehouse Bank have already reduced their fixed rates by a small %5yr fix was 5.1, now 4.95lucky as i opened one this morning4

Well, that stopped my dithering! Was going to go for Gatehouse 2yr Fixed monthly at 4.70% in the next day or so, and saw your message. On looking around for alternatives, spotted the Charter 2yr Fixed monthly at 4.84%. Decided to go for it, for better or worse! Two minutes and it was opened!TomDolan said:Gatehouse Bank have already reduced their fixed rates by a small %5yr fix was 5.1, now 4.95lucky as i opened one this morningCompiler of the RS League Table.

Isn't it 4.95%? I'm about to take the plunge on a 2 year fix for one of my large pots.Bobblehat said:

I think mse sites 'advice' on 3 4 and 5 yr fixes maybe needs updating. People have got to ask themselves what the interest rates will probably look like in 2 yrs? if you think it's likely to be 6 or 7% go for a 1or 2 yr now. If you think it may be less than 5% or more like 3-4% when boe rates start coming down, then you'd be better still getting your 5% for those last two yrs of your 5yr fix. Crystal ball time but wording it as there's not much premium for 5yr over one or two so don't bother, isn't really looking at the bigger picture. I'm sure we all have legacy accounts now from 2 yrs ago which looked super at 1.4% for 5 yrs ,which now we are losing money on. Well it can work the other way around in an environment of dropping interest rates. 5 yrs is a long time for things to change in the crazy modern world , remember 2 yrs ago low low interest rates were here to stay...biscan25 said:US inflation data today took the market by surprise. Overselling it a bit IMO. Figures were better than expected and it might mean lower and slower rises from the fed. Also, US inflation is not UK inflation. Although BoE obviously has one eye on the FX, prices at home are what they have to be ultimately responsible for.biscan25 said:US inflation data today took the market by surprise.
