The lovely builder came and has fixed my roof, took him 20 minutes and wouldn't take any money at first but I insisted on giving him something. I made him take £40 and he put £20 back on my worktop on his way out. Such a change to find someone genuine who won't rip people off. What a difference to the £800 - £900 I was quoted by the roofer that came out...

  • What good news about the roof. Just goes to show how some people are always trying to make money from you. Such a difference. £900 what a difference. I hate having to get people out. You lose all the trust in people when this happens xx

Yes, I was so grateful about the roof. He has said to keep an eye on it and if his fix doesn't work he will come back and do something else (which will cost a bit, but not nearly as much as the other quote!).

DS and I had a late night last night as OH very kindly bought DS (and me) tickets to watch a sporting event locally which overran somewhat. We're both really tired but he did get up and go to school with much better humour than I anticipated! I bought him a birthday present he chose whilst we were there which has 30% yesterday too. I also ordered OH's birthday gifts last night and had a £5 off Am&zon spend which I was able to use towards it.
The ziffit funds have been paid into the account, unfortunately they've been swallowed up in topping bits up and not sent straight to savings or the mortgage, but needs must. Payday is still a week away yet too.  :(

I have jab number 5 today, hopefully something will kick in soon...

Now the bl00dy bathroom sink has a large crack running right across underneath it and will have to be replaced. No idea how it’s happened as it’s not cracked on the top. It’s not even 18 months old yet. 🤦‍♀️ When I asked for a break I didn’t mean the expensive kind!

Jab no. 5 today, am still waiting on the magical effects…

I’ve made another product for my shop today and now just need to photograph it before uploading. I’ve also sent off the vinted sale which will bring in £10.

Is the sink not still under warranty, mine had 5 years, although I don't know if that is normal.

Thank you for checking in with me Mrs_Money_Penny xx

I'm ok, it's still a case of one thing after another but I'm so used to it that I just try and deal with each issue as best I can and await the next one. I've left the sink issue for now. The crack is underneath and OH wonders whether it was caused at the time of installation and I just haven't noticed it before as we can't figure out how it would otherwise have happened. I've since found out the plumber who completed the bathroom renovation wasn't the best so it may have been a sloppy bit of work by him as there are problems with the shower cubicle and the bath/taps. I'll leave it until I really have to deal with it.

I've finished the B12 shots and can't say I feel any better. I have to have them every 3 months for life now. I've realised the tingling and pins and needles I get in my feet and hands are likely to be related too so I need to speak to a doctor about that. Trying to get an appointment is like trying to win the lottery though. I have ordered some vitamins to start taking now though in the hope they make me feel better.

I've been feeling very down and frustrated with my life the past few days and am desperate to make changes and open up my world a bit. I've spoken to my counsellor about this a lot and she really agrees that I would benefit greatly from actually getting out and doing things so I've been looking at several creative-type regular and one-off events which I'd love to participate in but every one I've seen is on a day when I can't get there, either because of work or having DS in the evenings. I feel really trapped and stuck in this monotonous cycle at the moment tbh.
OH and I went out to his friend's 'big number' birthday gathering last week and we had such a good time. It was so lovely to get out, chat to people and have a laugh, I could feel a glimmer of my old happy, more confident self back for the evening and for a little while afterwards. We were both concerned about the cost of the evening as his friends are mostly big earners but as it was we didn't spend that much. OH insisted on paying out for most of it as he earns a lot more than me and knew I was worried about the money, but even he didn't need to part with anymore than £40. I wish I had a group of friends like that I could meet up with often, I think life would be so much easier if I new I had a 'social circle.'

We're now in the consultation period for redundancy at work. I think/hope I will survive this round of redundancies as a colleague has put in for ER/VR but (to cut a long story short and spare you all the detail) it looks like we have under 4 years of work left before the whole business is shut down and we're all made redundant. I really need a plan to get me in a better place within the next 4 years. I've set up another savings account to siphon little bits of money into (called it the 4 year fund  :/) and have set up a 'save the change' thing to be paid directly into there. There's around £30 in there just from that and a little bit of rounding up so far.
At the moment, I am still allowed to work extra hours and have just submitted my time sheet with an extra 35.5 hours of work to be paid in March's salary, so most of that will be going straight to savings to try and build my EF up. I can forsee those hours being taken off me soon though due to these 'cuts' that are being made.

I've opened my little crafty shop online but it's been disappointing tbh with little interest.
I only have 16 items listed at the moment, was planning more but am reluctant to make anything else if it's not selling. Unfortunately at the top of my reviews (99% 5 star reviews) is the one negative review from a customer who bought an item I previously produced. She moved house and put the wrong address for postage on and obviously didn't receive the item. I did actually refund her as I was wrapping that business up and just wanted the issue sorted as she was very aggressive, but I see a year later she left a poor review saying she hadn't had the item and I didn't reply, which was false as we had lengthy correspondence and I gave her a full refund! Unfortunately this can still be seen and there's nothing I can do about it so I hope that's not putting people off.
I do have another avenue I'd like to try if this isn't successful, but I don't want to spend any more money without recouping some first and I do love the 'crafty' side of making these things.

I've actually hung a load of washing on the line this morning for the first time this year (without having to run in and pick it in 5 minutes later due to rain). Hopefully it dries and saves me the ££'s on using the dryer.
I've pulled a batch cooked risotto out of the freezer for DS's tea tonight, not sure what I'll have yet but I'll find something.

I'm thinking of starting a new diary on the DFD forum instead of here on the MFW as I'm going to have to focus on saving instead of OPing now for the next few years. I still intend on rounding the mortgage down a little bit every month if I can but we're talking a few £'s and pennies rather than any higher numbers. Disappointing isn't it. :(

  • What a lovely builder to fix the roof without ripping you off.

Glad to read of your little business starting again. I used to enjoy reading about that on one of your earlier diaries when I first discovered MSE.

Hope you are feeling better soon after the injections.
