I used to work in a local authority childrens home and corned beef hah was a menu regular. We had two cooks and they used completely different recipes. One was more liquid with veg in it and the other made it with the corned beef mashed into mashed potato. Both were tasty so I never minded which we had. I have never made it as my husband doesnt like corned beef.

Mine used to do a tin of corned beef chopped into cubes, fried onion and gravy, poured over peas and mash.

Now, that sounds delicious! Thanks for the idea for today's lunch, I guess we have a winner!
I don't have any peas, but that does sound amazing!

I will be definitely getting some next time I go to the supermarket!

My DS was looking at buying a car last month as he was having issues with his, some of the prices were frightening, it’s a long time since I’ve bought a car and going on those prices I won’t be going to look for one any time soon.x

It is a hard decision whether to pay the £2200 for a repair or try and find a decent second hand one for that much.
    I wish you luck.

I like to use cars until they drop then buy a decent ish one. Reminds me to put more in the car replacement fund.

If it's a car you're happy will last a long time it may be worth doing.

If you're not sure, then it's probably worth trying to find another car.

The Bangernomics thread will probably be a worthwhile read. Subject to not living in a ULEZ area and as long as he is happy to do the work himself and source parts, an old Focus will probably be the best bet. Rovers are also popular over there.

well not a good a day today.  Car had issues so took it in to a local garage yesterday.  Call back this morning £2200 quote on a 12 year old car close to 190k on the clock.  And second hand car prices are silly.  And we don't want lease or PCP as we don't have the money needed per month.  We are screwed.  Don't know what my partner is going to do for work as he works shifts. Oh well we will muddle through some how.  Only fans here I come :D
Some of my OH's colleagues have switched to electric bikes. Not the same as a car i realise. Mentioning in case your partner's employer runs the cycle to work scheme, which allows payments to be staggered and a generous discount. These folks have switched in response to current petrol/diesel prices and have in real terms saved money even with the cost of purchasing the electric bike. A greater saving of course if the car was given up and for most the combined saving through not paying insurance, VED, maintenance etc is enough to cover an occasional hire car or a good number of taxi journeys.
