It leads definitely to some interesting combinations, but this was put together night before we moved out of an apartment last year (in Facebook memories today)
This together with a small cut of butter underneath and some pasta sauce on the top in the oven for 20 minutes worked a treat. Total cost if it wasn't mainly food that would otherwise be given away was probably not a lot and the only thing needing to be bought was the bread (about 30p, understandably more in the UK).💙💛 💔4 -
Cubes is definitely the way to go rather than mash.

Back when corned beef was cheap I used to boil spuds and onions, mash them with the corned beef, (mix in peas / carrots or have them as a side) and put it in a baking dish. Make some gravy and carefully put some on the top. Cook in the oven until the top was crispy. Serve with a bit more gravy.
Back then potato flakes, tinned / frozen veg and corned beef, with some own brand gravy was an even cheaper way of making it.Mortgage started 2020, aiming to clear 31/12/2029.5 -
My mum used to make corned beef hotpot - sliced potato, sliced onion & sliced corned beef in layers, covered in a jug of Oxo stock & baked so the top goes a bit crispy & crusty and served with frozen peas 😁
She also used to do eggy nests - a large dollop of mash (or for a school day tea for 3 kids a Pyrex casserole of mash) with a hollow made with a spoon, a squidgy of ketchup in the bottom and an egg cracked into the hollow. Add a bit of salt & pepper and bake till the egg is set but still has a runny yolk.2021 Decluttering Awards: ⭐⭐🥇🥇🥇🥇🥇🥇 2022 Decluttering Awards: 🥇

Mine used to do a tin of corned beef chopped into cubes, fried onion and gravy, poured over peas and mash.

I stopped eating meat 34 years ago, but when I first got married corned beef hash was a big favourite.
It really was just potatoes, onions, carrots and corned beef cooked in gravy. Served with brown sauce. Leftovers were drained of gravy, mashed and made into pasties and frozen.
Three things I miss from meat eating days.

Corned beef hash certainly seems to cover a wide scope! The one I was brought up on and still favour consists of fried onions, corned beef added to the frying pan and then baked beans added. We didn't have potatoes with it, but corned beef was probably cheaper then in relation to other things.4

My DH likes corned beef hash the way @GaleSF63 remembers it but with potatoes in. I eat it but have to say it's not a favourite of mine - I eat it because I refuse to cook 2 separate meals! Don't have it often and it will be even less often now the price has risen so much.

44 years ago I went to a uni friends wedding and we were served corned beef hash for the wedding breakfast in the church hall. It was cooked by friends of the brides mum who all arrived and served it with ladles from big pans. I remember there was discussion about the various recipes
It was an eye opener for meLove living in a village in the country side6 -
linz said:My mum used to make a take on corned beef hash when i was little similar to this - chopped onion & tin of corned beef cut into cubes and heated, mix with mashed potatoes and put in an oven dish like you would with shepherds pie. She'd then crumple up a couple of bags of smokey bacon crisps and finish off in the oven - mmm i loved it"You've been reading SOS when it's just your clock reading 5:05 "2
