Sorry that does not make sense to me. I can go to Lidl or Aldi or Tesco and buy Scottish dairy, Scottish meat and Scottish veg and even sometimes Scottish fruit eg berries. I never expect a Scottish banana but would be interested to know where Morrisons get bananas, pineapples etc.machasraven said:Morrisons are the only supermarket that have their own farms in the UK. this is why the prices are going up. Other supermarkets are buying from elsewhere. if you support farmers then the price rises are OK otherwise the money goes to farmers in other countries7

You can make a complaint online - I did this after taking a photo of my food & the menu to show the difference, I got a phone call quite soon afterwards and the cost was put back onto my More card as a voucher to use instore.YoungBlueEyes said:We used to like shopping in Lidl, then a quick cheap lunch in Morrisons. The last time we went (a few months ago now), it was so poor we vowed not to go back. And we haven't. I would've said something to the cafe staff but there was no-one on the till, and the server who brought out the food couldn't have cared less actually.2021 Decluttering Awards: ⭐⭐🥇🥇🥇🥇🥇🥇 2022 Decluttering Awards: 🥇

The food comes from their own farms (so Scottish raspberries you get in Manchester store will still be from their farms). They were the only supermarket that owned their stores and the land they sit on too. They bought Rathbones bakery a while ago etc etc. So the items you buy there are UK produced.I also liked how the cafe served own brand food, so you can see what the sausages/cake were like before buying it off the shelves. Before they sold out to that US investment co and it went downhill. It was a great set up IMO.Shout out to people who don't know what the opposite of in is.10

My son worked in morrisons, the food that was on its sell by date made it's way to the cafe to be sold. Especially the fresh fish.YoungBlueEyes said:The food comes from their own farms (so Scottish raspberries you get in Manchester store will still be from their farms). Having said that, I did used to enjoy a trip to the cafe, it always seemed good value, but its been over 10 years since I last went.5

The cafe is great, a lovely breakfast.
They own their own haulage, factories, and clothing companies as well all in the UK. They also the highest paying supermarket for the workers.
Need to wait and see how the takeover works out, but now they are still adhering to the old ethos of UK workforce.“HUMAN BEINGS MAKE LIFE SO INTERESTING. DO YOU KNOW, THAT IN A UNIVERSE SO FULL OF WONDERS, THEY HAVE MANAGED TO INVENT BOREDOM. (Death)” - Sir Terry Pratchett5

Welcome back Jackie!I had some good luck on the food sharing app Olio, my local food hero had lots of loaves of bread available from a very nice local shop/bakery and I managed to get a couple, so that takes care of sandwiches and toast for the next three or four days. Recently I've been too late to get any items from it, but had good timing this time around.Grocery budget in 2023 £2279.18/£2700Grocery budget in 2022 £2304.76/£2400Grocery budget in 2021 £2107.86/£2200Grocery budget in 2020 £2193.02/£2160Saving for Christmas 2023 #15 £ 90/ £3658

This morning I logged into my Co-op account to view what membership MOCs were available this week. They normally have 8 items to choose from - only 2 allowed per week - with either 25p or 50p off. It seems they are also tightening their belt as the offers are now 15p or 30p off. It hardly seems worth it BUT working it out over the year you could potentially save £31.20 so, in this day and age, every penny saved helps. Last week I bought a ys pack of x4 fairly large chicken thighs for £1.38. They've provided us (2 people) with three meals - a Thai green curry with rice on Saturday, chicken & mushroom supreme with jacket potato and broad beans tonight and enough meat frozen for a stir fry at a later date. Not to mention the stock that I've used as a base for a minestrone-type soup. Even allowing for the rice, veggies etc that I've used, it's still good value.
I've also used up some fresh milk before it goes off to make a large custard tart (6 generous portions) and a large tub of custard to have with fruit for afters.
I'm still adding one or two extra store cupboard items to my basket whenever I go shopping; this week it will be a couple of tins of potatoes as I can see fresh ones shooting up in price because of the recent hot weather. They're not my favourite but do make good potato salad and can be sliced/fried or even roasted and, let's face it, we may well need to be even more inventive than usual!Be kind to others and to yourself too.14
