How do you know the agent refused to pass your increased offer to the vendor? I called up and said 'I'd like to put in a higher offer'
Agent (testily): 'The vendor's not taking any more offers. She's sticking with the one she's got.'
Me: 'Ok well let me know if anything changes'
End.
Poor vendor. I wasn't even asked what my new offer was!

Would you be happy if your offer had been accepted and then the vendor decided to sell to someone who came along later with a higher offer? It is called gazumping and frowned upon.

Yes I do know that. And it's the chance we all take when buying property in England. It doesn't happen in Scotland.
Believe me - there will be a few more examples of that happening in the weeks to come. Gazumping isn't illegal.
And it's the vendors who do it, since they are responsible for accepting a higher offer.0 -

As a buyer, I would have probably put in an offer, you never know the vendors morals and you're just being human,
if I were the vendor, I would have stuck with the offer I accepted.0 -
