Dealing with the DWP (esp when you haven't got a current claim) can be very difficult, you may wish to seek help from your MP in getting an sensible response from the DWP.

Also you may wish to try:

UC Risk Review Team - 0800 169 0347  (If that number is still in place).
There was a unit set up to specifically deal with UC identity fraud
    What's MP?
    Member of Parliament
Information I post is for England unless otherwise stated. Some rules may be different in other parts of UK.

You have a MP (Member of Parliament) for the constituency you live in.
Find your MP - MPs and Lords - UK Parliament

When should I contact my MP?

MPs can help with issues that are the responsibility of UK Parliament. They represent their constituents and can help with issues such as:

    • hospitals and the NHS
    • problems with benefits, pensions and national insurance
    • immigration
    • school closures and funding
    • transport facilities
  • Just contacted DWP and reported this. They said they have opened a fraud case, I've asked what the address the claim was made, and was an address where I never use to live. Someone started claiming from last January.

You did well to get through. Hopefully they also said they would cancel the DAE pending investigation.

They said they will get in touch within a week. I said to them as well that I have been working all the time and got payslips to prove.

Well done on getting though to Debt Management. They are a nightmare to contact at the best of times. Also sometimes the first contact someone will have with Debt Management is when they inform you that money is going to be taken from your wages. They aren't supposed to do it that way but they are so snowed under with work that letters that should be sent aren't getting sent.

Was it debt management you spoke to?

    Will the DEA be cancelled?

What benefit are they saying was overpaid?
Spoke to a lady on the phone. Someone claimed universal credit on my name from an address where I never use to live.

It is your work that has to manage the deduction so it depends if they have processed the attachment yet or not.
