Received a letter from DWP

Hi.
I've received a letter today from Department for Work and Pensions saying that I owe £4000 to them, and I nearly had shock.
Not sure why I have received this, because I've never been on benefits, or had universal credit.
Any ideas? Is that a scam?

Did you ever claim Tax Credits from HMRC? If so it may be Tax Credit debt which has been passed to DWP for collection.Information I post is for England unless otherwise stated. Some rules may be different in other parts of UK.0

What do they say that you owe it for?0

You’ll need to ring them to try and find out more about it. Unfortunately it can be very difficult to communicate with them.

Thanks. It says that money will be collected from my wages, which is really frustrating.calcotti said:You’ll need to ring them to try and find out more about it. Unfortunately it can be very difficult to communicate with them.

What does it say then? I’ll be very surprised if it literally says “You owe us £4,000, we’re taking it from your wages”Will123321 said:
