Surely this is like the "gay cake" case (not my words) that's just been shut down in the courts?
I can imagine this would be a similar case that would go nowhere, with the only winners being the lawyers.
Ultimately, it's 2 protected characteristics being out of sync.
One distinction is that the bakers (I think) argued they were being asked to "promote" same sex marriage via the design of the cake - whereas this case appears to be the vendors speculating about the domestic activities of their potential buyers.

I'm not saying it's right btw - my previous 2 deleted posts said that I don't agree with the vendors.

I notice that the potential buyers have said that they want to call this out, but don't want to take it further.
One big difference between the cases, is that the issue the bakers had was not the fact that the customers were gay, but with the slogan they wanted on the cake.

Yes, sellers have the final say in who they sell too ( assuming they have multiple offers) but they can’t blanket ban viewings from people based on things like sexuality or ethnicity. For most of us it comes down to a combination of offer price and who we think is less likely to let us down but other factors  will come into play for others.

I read this and was horrified.

I genuinely do not understand why who you sell your house to really matters, you won’t  be living there any more.

I’m glad the EA removed this property from their books.  Hopefully no other EA will take it on but I can’t see that happening
Who I sold my house to was a major factor in whose offer I accepted. I had amazing neighbours and I wanted to make sure that whoever bought the house would be decent people.

To say they are wrong based on their religious beliefs is discrimination in itself. Its an unpleasant scenario.
But they are wrong, and deserve to be shamed for what they have done.
I didn't say they were right. I replied to the comment regarding whether who you sell your house matters. It does, its one of many factors on how you decide to sell to. As I said my neighbours are great people and i would want to ensure that whoever i sold to would be equally as good a neighbour as we were.
OK, but you’re implying that this couple wouldn’t be great neighbours, based on their sexuality.
No I didn't. I'm saying that I have a choice who I want to sell my house to, sexuality has no bearing on that decision. Just for the record I agree that its not right that the couple are deemed unfit buyers based on their sexuality.
You also said that it was wrong to criticise the sellers in this case, and called it discrimination…
No I said its a contradiction, the sellers could easily say they are being discriminated against because others don't accept their beliefs.
    No you didn't, you wrote;

"To say they are wrong based on their religious beliefs is discrimination in itself. Its an unpleasant scenario."

You explicitly said it was discrimination to call out their homophobia and to criticise them for it, which is ridiculous.

I see that you want to back-track now, but please stop trying to tell me that you didn't write what you did.
I'm using the context of beliefs and the contradiction of the acceptance of the bible in this country. I've never mentioned sexuality or homophobia. I would appreciate you stop trying to make me out to be something i very much am not.

Wrong in this case clearly means homophobic (you obviously knew that).

So what you were saying is that calling someone who is religious homophobic is discrimination.

That seems to be what the poster is saying above - I don't seen any other 'something' the poster is saying you are?

Awful. The potential buyers have had a lucky escape.

However, it just goes to show how many vendors  feel that their house, which is after all just bricks and mortar, is something everyone will want and is a living breathing thing 🤣. Too many people think they are doing buyers a favour, and feel they have this duty to 'choose' people for their neighbours who they will never see again.

you see this when buyers are asked to state why the house should be sold to them.

    I hope they never sell.

Religion is one of the protected characteristics, I am merely saying that this scenario could be deemed discrimination from the other party. I guess i could have worded it better by adding 'could be' rather than is.

The mistake they made was not allowing the viewing.  I'm sure that, with hindsight, they've realised that they should've just let them view and then, if they made an offer, just reject it.  Although that depends on how keen they are to sell their house.
