With the last switch offer, my brother transferred in a dummy account with no D/Ds, and set up no new D/Ds afterwards.

But he had existing D/Ds on his account, and he got the £130

Wonder why they have made it so you have to go to a branch to switch? The similar offer at the end of last year allowed you to do it online

No, the published terms for that offer also stated that switching into existing accounts had to be done in branch, but it was established by forum members that it could be done by phone (but not online).

For clarity, it wasn't (and isn't) in the terms; IIRC it's the online switching process to an existing account that fails, and get's the 'need to visit branch..' response.

It didn't say you could phone, but posted in the last offer thread:

Switch can be done 0800 085 2202 , option 1, got answered quickly, agent was unaware of switching offer, kept  on old ages while he found out, came back stated some of the switch offer terms...

Perhaps someone will let us know if it's still current?

Y If you can open a new one that's the way to go.. but they won't let some of us who have multiple legacy accounts.
Santander wouldn't let me open a new when I tried last year - so I phoned to switch to one of my existing accounts.

Reading all the T&C's referring to this offer, as with most of these offers there's a couple of questions that needs to be asked not covered in the terms.
Reference to switching to their Everyday account.

It says pay in £1k into the account within 60 days, does it need to stay there? I maybe plan on leaving it there anyway. I realise there is no minimum pay in thereafter.

Set up 2 DD's (or transfer 2 with the switch) within 60 days. Do these DD's need to stay on the account once the incentive has been paid, guessing not?
  • If the t&c does not state "funds must remain in account for X number of days" and "DDs must remain active after incentive is paid" then there is no requirement to do so.

    Another technical question about DD's.
My wife is about to open a Santander account for the incentive. She doesn't currently have any DD's on her account to be switched so will set them up after the switch. Problem is one she wants to switch is only paid out every six months (magazine subscription) first payment due end of February, next one July/August.
Santander say it must be an active DD, technically this six monthly DD will remain active on her account, what's the thoughts on them saying it's not an active one and should be a monthly payment?
  • I don't think it matters that the DD is every 6 months, but if it were me I'd want the February payment to come from the new Santander account.

In other words, open the new account and transfer the DD over ASAP. The DD can be moved over as soon as you have the new account details - no need to wait for the current account switch to take place.
