How early did you buy your dress?

I got my wedding dress in the Monsoon sale on Thurdsay , my chief bridesmaid got her dress the same day and I got my daughters bridesmaid dress on Saturday. We're getting married in July 08

I read on another forum that its best not to hang the dress due to the heavy nature of it all can ruin at the seams etc? They said best to lie the dress flat on a bed or floor on breathable material i.e. a cloth dress bag or cotton white duvet cover to allow the dress to breathe in case of humidity or discolouration of the dress.

I only found this out myself just now after hanging my dress for the last month so am worried I may have ruined it already! Am going to buy a king size white 100% cotton duvet cover first thing tomorrow and lay it in the spare room!!

I am getting hitched in Sept this year (feels crazy saying that) and ordered my dress in Oct 07 after trying on several, and it was delivered at the beginning of Dec 07.

Dependant on the stockist etc it can vary from a month - 8 months to receive a dress... plus u then have to factor in any future fittings!

I must say having my dress hanging at my mums has been a mahooooosive boost in my attempts to shift this 1.5 stone of extra weight i have been carrying around for far too long!!

I keep changing my mind about the dresses I like. I'm off to try some in the next week or so. I'm getting married July this year and so far its been a bit of a panic as so many people are booked up already! There is no way I could be planning this for years and years though - it would drive me mental!

So far most dresses I've looked at (on US websites) take around 8 to 15 weeks so I'll be ordering something hopefully by the end of this month.

Oooh didnt know that about the hanging of it, i bought a dress bag at the weekend and hung it, it's in dd's wardrobe as we have no spare room and don't know where else to put it, may do the duvet thing and get my friend to look after it!!

I was very surprised too when I read it, I was like "oohh really" but I guess it does make sense if the dress is heavy esp. if it has built in petitcoat like mine?

I went and brought a king size sheet from mr. t's as it was on offer and wrapped it up in that!

Now I just have to stop looking at it! Hope you're better than me and not touching and looking at it all the time! :rotfl:

I bought mine in july 06 for my wedding in October 06!
I was a very laid back bride.
I know my mum was panicking about me not having a dress for a long time in advance!

Our wedding is booked for September (We booked the church and the hotel for the reception in November even before we got engaged just to make sure we could get the date we wanted)

I've been and looked at a couple of dresses and browsed the internet but not planning on actually buying one until about Feb/March for a couple of reasons...

1. I have approximately £20 saved towards it
2. I'm desperately trying to shift some weight (It's the kick up the backside I need)

My biggest worry is what size to order... But I'm sure I'll figure it out, I've got 3 months....:cool:

I think that's exactly why some buy their dresses to early: if you see one you fall in love with, you can't be sure that dress or anything even similar will be available nearer the time.
My sister has bought her dress (a little too tight atm but she's confident she'll be able to slim into it) before she's even set a date, because she wanted a dress with sleeves and they're so hard to find, especially in biggish sizes, since sleeveless wedding dresses are the norm these days and probably for the foreseeable future. When she saw one that she wanted she grabbed it quick.
I bought mine about 4 months in advance (secondhand since I was on a tight budget), and had it altered (I'm short so I knew it woud need taken up) about a month before the big day.
P.S. I can't see hanging a dress up being a problem unless it's extremely heavy: bridal shops have them hanging vertically for months.

We just set the date for our civil partnership last night :T:T:T - 30th October 2009 - its my 40th and her 37th birthday on the same day so we figure it'll be one hell of a party

Anyway I had a quick scout around the web last night (as you do ) and where are all the dresses with sleeves? Virtually every dress seems to be a strapless one and for those of us who are cracking on a bit bingowingitis can be a bit of an issue

Determined to have a thoroughly wonderful MSE partnership - in fact I'm setting myself a little bit of a challenge - can I pay for it all via Quidco, Ebay, clickies, surveys and various other money saving bits and pieces? So far I have £100 in Quidco with a further £120 to come once the mobiles phones are changed this weekend. I'm opening a special wedding bank account and really looking forward organising the best knees up ever
