Apparently he also fitted an RCBO in the cellar (he was down there so little time we thought it was just to turn electrics off and back on) so it appears it should be safe.
...which is more or less what I suspected earlier in the thread when it first came up that a disconnector had been fitted instead of an RCD.  The cable from the consumer unit to the charger now also has protection. (was that necessary?)

Whether or not the changes he's made are good practice and/or compliant with the regs would make for a fine debate....

But if he's fitted a RCBO as well as the disconnector then the cost of parts will be significantly more than the £7.59 being discussed the other day.

I don't have the technical knowledge to upload photos I'm afraid but the invoice just said to attend property to attend faulty EV charger £156.  Materials £60.  £216 + VAT £43.20.  Sum total £259.20.  Details of the part fitted have been drip fed via email afterwards.  Apparently he also fitted an RCBO in the cellar (he was down there so little time we thought it was just to turn electrics off and back on) so it appears it should be safe.
Apologies then. As a recently ex-plumber I often used to supply and fit items with an extended parts warranty provided by the manufacturer e.g. taps with 12 year parts warranty. I would always detail the part fitted on the invoice so that in the event of a claim the customer would have proof of purchase required to provide to the manufacturer (if I'd retired or got run over by a bus). I also used to provide more detail covering what the symptoms were, what fault was identified and what was done to rectify it - pretty basic stuff I thought and giving protection to both me and the customer in the event of further problems.
Sorry I can't think of anything profound, clever or witty to write here.
