New (left) vs old (right) Starling card.

The MasterCard logo on the new card has a metallic effect.

Pretty sure the old one was 'new style' for the purpose of this thread.

I prefer the joint one FWIW:

No, a debit card is usually associated with money in a current account.

Commission free withdrawals abroad are only available if it is a feature of the account...

My new Wise (TransferWise) card is called Platinum debit. Not sure what it's supposed to mean.

They didn't say what debit meant. They said world debit
  • With regards to the world  “Word Debit” on the Starling MasterCard, this is one of the card levels offered by MasterCard, the same way Visa has Signature, Infinite etc. MasterCard has had the versions World and WorldElite for a while and each would be supported by some International/Travel benefits if the Card Issuer signs up to it. For example World Elite Cards (the one with a Silver MasterCard logo) could have Concierge services and other benefits but more often then not (especially in the UK) the issuing bank/card company, does not sign up to those (think about Revolut or even Chase), but for example both Santander and HSBC have World Elite cards,  have indeed signed up to some of those benefits (you need to sign up to the MasterCard Travel Rewards Website and only recognised BIN will come up with offers/premium services).
  • Hopefully this means First Direct are changing there debit cards again soon hopefully as the current ones awful
