DON'T BUY STUFF (from Frugalwoods)
No seriously, just don’t buy things. 99% of our success with our savings rate is attributed to the fact that we don’t buy things... You can and should take advantage of discounts.... But at the end of the day, the only way to truly save money is to not buy stuff. Money doesn’t walk out of your wallet on its own accord.

Well here we are …
She has a break at the top of her left femur, just behind the ball that sits inside the hip. There was a scary bit today when we understood that she also had damage to one of the vertebrae at the base of her tail and hadn’t passed any water or solids since being admitted in spite of having plenty to get rid of. If she couldn’t achieve this function then all odds were off and we would have to make the hard decision …
The vet gave her a couple of laxatives and got things ‘moving’ so it does look like she can control her discharge processes. She needs a big wee - we’re all hoping that happens overnight when it’s quiet and everyone has gone home. There are two surgical options. The first is to take her an hour and half down to Bristol where they would pin the two bones together. The other option could be done by our local vet - remove the broken off piece of bone and remove any sharp edges on the remainder of the bone to avoid it abrading the pelvis. Apparently cats are muscular and light enough to cope without having a functioning hip joint - wouldn’t work with a German Shepard sized dog though. We are going for option 2.She has scrapes on one knee and one of her foot pads is ripped open and full of dirt. They are gently working their way through these issues with her. We got to see her this evening. She was a bit dopey but seemed okay to see us and purred when I rubbed the side of her head. I have to say the vet was superb, so caring of both us and Chloe. Really, really impressed. We are relieved and hopeful. She will have to have two weeks in a crate. The animal mad woman next door has a crate we can borrow. We should know when the surgery will happen tomorrow. They are hoping to schedule it in a couple of days.We are both shattered. The smoke alarm started beeping for a low battery at 4am this morning and that was before the Chloe drama started! We admitted defeat after leaving the vets and got a fish and chip supper for dinner this evening! 😉

Poor Chloe, glad you have a supportive vet and hopefully the insurance takes any major financial pressure off decision making. At least she had the good sense to go home.My mortgage free diary: https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/6498069/whoops-here-comes-the-cheese

So sorry to hear this, its not nice for all of you. A friend of mine had her cat operated on after being run over, she had to kind of press the bladder to make him wee for quite a while after when he was recovering. There's also one on my mum's road who is now a very old cat and walks with a very stiff hip - apparently he too was run over a long time ago. He's an old boy now so has had a long and happy life.
