Thanks all. That was one long, exhausting day.I sent out an email to the colleagues I particularly wanted to say goodbye and thank you to early on (to catch the ones in China) and then it started running …. I’ve had messages, emails, calls, from all over the world and people coming up to me all day. It has honestly been exhausting. The interesting thing for me was that those who I felt I had, or still do, clash with, were far and away the most sincere in how they expressed their regret that I was leaving and how much they had enjoyed and appreciated me being around ….I got called down to reception at about 10am to a huge bouquet of flowers, which turned out to be from my team. When I took it back upstairs they had also arranged a cake (one of the team’s fiancé does them as a hobby) of a garden - I started getting pretty wobbly ….
I took a bottle of wine and a card in for my senior quality engineer to thank him as we have been through a LOT together. It was a gently mickey-taking (he has a very dry sense of humour) but sincere message in the card and I know it reached him, as he looked me dead in the eye (rare for him) and just said, thank you.My boss floated past at one point in the morning, asking what I was doing in the day. So I told him all the tasks and then that I was finishing at 3pm. He said good and that he would see me later, with a smile. I was like ugh, no thanks …. senior quality engineer, who was sat next to me, was like ‘what the ….?!’ ….So I ducked him, the boss I mean. I gave my mobile, laptop, Amex business card, passwords, PIN numbers and swipe card to the HR officer and skipped off ….
I am so very, very tired. Not quite sure how to bring myself back up ….

Have a lie in and take a week to de-stress. You need to put the garden to bed for winter, that is also self- care and therapy. You have been through a massively traumatic few weeks. You acquitted yourself beautifully , so let the stress levels subside a bit, get used to not going to sleep and waking up full of dread, - shout at a squirrel if it helps - or just for fun - and enjoy the turning of the season before the long dark nights come in fully.
And then, you can reassess the situation without fear.
You hit the ESC key, and have escaped. Stockholm syndrome is 'a thing'. Be kind to yourself, and don't end up running the PC!
ETA you still have 22 books to read in 2024 to hit your target 📚📚4/10/22One Year Mortgage Free Yay!
