Thanks all ….
Boss opened the conversation by stating that HR had told him that I was upset on Thursday. His response:- To say that he had concerns about whether I was the right person for the role.I disagreed with this and said that I felt that I was and could deliver the role.HR joined us then (late) and after summarising what happened on Thursday and whether I had achieved what I wanted to do before going home that day, asked whether I wanted to have a protected conversation. I said no, i wanted to make the job work. I think that rather took the wind out of her sails.I asked for priorities, what my boss thought my days to day performance should look like. HR said when I got these from my boss I needed to review them and let my boss know what was actually achievable.
I mentioned the lack of positive feedback - boss said it was hard to find anything to be positive about. I said I didn’t think that could really be possible if I was only getting this negative feedback recently.I mentioned that it was disheartening and tiring that every time I went into his office that his face dropped into a frown - this finally got an honest reaction from him. He said he didn’t know if he could change that. (He made much more effort to be welcoming as I entered his office in the afternoon however.)
He commented that I still wasn’t working enough hours. (🙄😳)
Apparently my team aren’t working hard enough - HR is observing them and feeding back to my boss - their hours, what they are doing etc etc.
After I got back to my desk I found an email from the global function manager (two levels above my boss) offering to mentor me if it would be helpful. I was a bit suspicious initially but he explained that I had seemed more stressed when he had been on site a few weeks ago so was reaching out to see if he could help. I explained what was going on with my boss - senior guy was shocked - and said that I would really appreciate the help, and after I get the priorities and expectations from my boss that might be a good time to start.I did lots of work. Achieved lots and started recording it at HR’s suggestion so that i start feeling like I am achieving something (with no positive feedback from my boss) and to share with boss …
I am angry. Cold, resolutely, dangerously angry. I will NOT let this idiot strip me of a role I have fought hard on for two and half years with diddly support and make so much progress in. I will play this game. And I will win.I will call the union on Thursday (my day off) to understand what any offer should be in a protected conversation.KKAs at 15.08.25:

And in other, more positive news ….
The statement for our joint account arrived today and we had £209.14 excess in there. After a conversation with Mr KK I have:
- moved £75 to the links joint savings which took it over £500, which feels a bit more secure (it got depleted due to the work on the bathroom)
- sent £75 off as an OP ❤️
New mattress topper arrived today - 3 days early, yaay! 😊 I have it on the bed and remade it. Looking forward to my bed tonight 🤩

First of all, well done for putting up with that ridiculous ordeal. Can't believe HR was late, or that your boss still sounds like a *$^#. Very glad someone more senior has offered to mentor you - hopefully they already know what a (%;#& boss is being and there may be other processes behind the scenes with him that you don't know about I suppose... I hope he is being performance managed himself 😠 either way, I am glad for your sake that things are down on record, and that you are determined not to be beaten.
Enjoy your very well deserved new bed! 😊😊4 -
Thanks @Cheery_Daff. There was something about yesterday and how I was made ‘the problem’ that broke something between boss and I. He made no effort to understand or Care (supposedly one of the corporate values) - his answer is to get rid of me …? Not impressed.KKAs at 15.08.25:

What an absolute pillock he is. Getting rid of someone rarely resolves any problems anyway. Being mentored by someone a few grades above him might help on a few levels, and, rather take the wind out of his sails (if you want to be mentored by someone that is).
I like the cold hard "I will win" attitude. Go you! You will win with that approach.Made it to mortgage free but what a muddle that became
In the event the proverbial hits the fan then co-habitees are better stashing their cash than being mortgage free !!5
