Broad beans make more nitrogen than they use, and they fix it in the nodules in their roots, so ground level cutting of plant, and as the root breaks down the soil becomes much healthier.
My grandfather used to dig a trench, fill with his veg scraps and peelings, cover over slightly with soil, and then planted his beans on top, the heat from the composting material made them grow faster, and as they are greedy  and they love a rich compost,  their roots went straight down into very fertile compost.

I tried that last year. Didn’t seem to help at all, but the heat might have played a part as well.

You will have a bumper crop this year then (fingers crossed!). If this summer ever actually gets going for more than 2 hours at a time.  It was glorious this morning, and then, 11.00 lashed down, glorious for 30 minutes, then big black clouds, another downpour and grey and cold ever since!  I am in a thick hoodie to stay warm.
It is supposed to pick up on Wednesday though, just in time for the solstice, maybe it will stay warm for a while ...?

For some reason Brigerton has not appealed although usually I love a soapy historic drama.  Need to find something else to watch here after finishing a Netfix series on a megablack church which was quite fun (Greenleaf).

Actually popped on to say cats are fussy little whatsits on the food front LOL   My little 'feral' will only eat some very expensive wet food that is grain free and blah blah yet happily pinches WattyDogs food which does not meet her personally firmly expressed requirements. Does make me laugh
Made it to mortgage free but what a muddle that became

In the event the proverbial hits the fan then co-habitees are better stashing their cash than being mortgage free !!

I found they accepted dry food quite well as long as it was fresh.  Which meant buying the more expensive smaller bags but ultimately less was wasted so maybe it saved ££ after all?  Another trick was to ensure the wet food, when they got it, was warm.  quick boil of the kettle, splash a bit in and give it a mush.  Good thing the little dears are so cute else they'd be getting cold grits.

Glad the gardening is still nourishing you - and the knitting soothing. I adore the colour.

Sub £250k is well worth celebrating.  Even if it is 'just' a scone in the garden.
