Another great cleaning job!
That's good you've heard from your cousin, and a really nice offer
How is Mr KK's dad (and mum) getting on?1 -
Thanks @skint_spice, it’s a while off yet 😊
@PennysIntoPounds, it’s very satisfying doing these ‘little nibble’ cleaning jobs in the week. They are visually ‘painful’ so the return versus effort is quite high 😊
I was surprised by the offer from my cousin as I don’t see myself as close to her, but maybe we will find a way of being friends in some way on our own terms out of this 🤷♀️🤞
Mr KK’s dad is slowly declining, getting very tired, taking a looong time to get dressed in the mornings now. But still KBOing 😊 His mum seems to be okay ish - up and down iykwim.KKAs at 15.07.25:

The news has deteriorated since earlier. There’s a big family event happening this Sunday (slide show of all the ancient family holiday pictures - if I’m honest I’m dreading it …. Selfish aren’t I … 🤷♀️) with everyone bringing bits for lunch. Mr KK has been texting his mum with what we are brining and apparently Mr KK Snr has not been very well at all over the past two days. Mr KK normally goes round on Thursdays but this week he is going round tomorrow to see what is going on.KKAs at 15.07.25:

Hope it's something reasonably resolvable x
And no, it's not selfish to dread spending half your weekend having to think about, get or make, and take lunch bits, and travel there and back, and be around lots of people, in a potentially upsetting situation, looking at old holiday pictures. Having to look at other people's recent holiday pictures is bad enough! Don't make yourself feel guilty for being human3 -
Poor MrKK and KK senior. My lovely FiL went in waves of up and down and it was hard to judge.I don't mind a few photos and the odd story (as long as I can inflict the Ayers Rock on a Harley Davidson one in return!) but an evening of them sounds very tedious.
I am in awe at your returning from GC with just compost. I went to orange diy place to buy a propagator (cheapest place) and only bought some spare planting trays and another base tray (to keep the wet off the window ledges now that they are pretty and tiled) and some (20) light bulbs in the clearance, and some bits off his list, and... £91 instead of £38. Whoops. It was piddling down so I don't look at plants or compost at least. My mortgage free diary: https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/6498069/whoops-here-comes-the-cheese

I am glad your cousin has reached out. Hopefully that will simplify the accommodation and give you a chance to reconnect.
Well done on the continued decluttering and cleaning.

Thanks @beanielou, @PennysIntoPounds, @redofromstart and @savingholmes. I really appreciate the understanding and support.Today has been a day of ups, downs and ups again …..
Hectic, busy day that was prolonged due to having a hour long coaching session at the end of my day - that was quite enjoyable though and I came out of it feeling quite positive.Driving home, in a good mood, car died on me again. And I mean properly died, absolutely no-go at all, just at the end of a filter in the midst of the rush hour … I had to pull over, turn the engine off and back on again, in busy / grumpy traffic, and then gently trundle home with the engine light on all the way … 🙄
Came home quite stressed because of this.
Mr KK had some slightly better news than expected - his dad is deteriorating but steadily rather than in a great leap. Both his parents are in a reasonable state of mind and looking forward to Sunday.Feeling quite down about the car I told Mr KK that I need to get a ‘new’ one - we started looking and actually, if you get rid of Mr KK’s overly ambitious age and mileage expectations my £10K budget does look possible and it wouldn’t completely obliterate my savings (c. 50% but not all). That helped.
I also texted an engineer friend who I know has recently bought a new car and she talked me through options and ideas, models, etc and then said it would be worth trying to change the battery as that could be triggering the start/stop issue. So, that’s what I will do, hopefully on the weekend. Fingers crossed that works! Also today, I was talking to my boss about taking a day’s unpaid leave for the funeral, driving back that evening and asked if I could work from home on the Tuesday. He surprised me by saying he didn’t want me to do that - drive home, in the dark and possibly bad weather on the night of a funeral, thinking about things etc. (I was gobsmacked!) and I should see if I could pull two days’ leave into the 23-24 holiday year rather than taking unpaid leave. I already have the Wednesday and Thursday booked off that week, to run into Easter, so, bizarrely, it looks like I will get a full week off work running into Easter …. This would be lovely, albeit with a funeral at the beginning.Very grateful for Mr KK, my friend and for once, my boss. 😊
