    Hi KK - just caught up! 72 posts just from 21/12 to now. Hadn't realised it had been 'so long'! 

    Anyway glad you had a good Xmas and did what you wanted. 

    On the family thing I feel you. I'll PM you a couple of book suggestions that have helped me - although I too am still a work in progress.

    2) £2.6K Net savings after CCs 10/10/25
    3) Mortgage neutral by 06/30 (AVC £27.9K + Lump Sums DB £4.6K + (25% of SIPP 1.25K) = 34/£127.5K target 26.6% 10/10/25
    (If took bigger lump sum = 60.35K or 47.6%)
    4) FI Age 60 income target £17.1/30K 57% (if mortgage and debts repaid - need more otherwise) (If bigger lump sum £15.8/30K 52.67%)

    As at 15.10.25:
    - When bought house £315,995 mortgage debt and end date at start = October 2039 - now £229,702
    - OPs to mortgage = £12,345 Estd. interest saved = £5,863 to date
    Fixed rate 3.85% ends October 2030

    Read 60 books of target 52 in 2025, as @ 30th October 
    Produce tracker: £426 of £300 in 2025

  • Are you trying to tell me that where I went wrong last year was staring at my designated veg patch and then not actually doing much about it?
    What is the plan? Raised bed or dig down? Is it currently soil or grass?

    if it is soil or grass then there is value in skimming off the turf/weeds and turning the soil so that winter frosts and birds/worms do some of the work for you between now and spring. Depends if it's still too saturated to dig though.

    I took my my dad to a talk Charles Fielding gave which was fascinating and made it sound really easy. I need to get planning for veggie growing next year, after the kitchen is sorted!

    I'd love to go and listen to someone inspiring on planting stuff @CCW007 the closest I get is my Christopher Lloyd books

    @merlinsbeard if you are going for raised beds then you may get bargain frames, and then as @KajiKita says cardboard and compost on the grass and get ahead of yourself.
