Money Moral Dilemma: Should I offer to pay part of my friend's parking fine?

I would have offered to pay half, however if he has made it clear he expects you to pay half, I would point out he was the driver and that you had no 'input' into where he parked and leave it at that0

No his fault not yours he knew the city and was a plonker and risked it and got stung!

As a car driver with the knowledge that virtually every car-park area has different rules the contravention of which prove costly in time/energy/stress in dealing with, I would have asked my friend: “are you sure you can park here without a ticket?”. If they were a real friend, and had got “fined” because I hadn’t helped them when I could have, I would probably offer to pay all of it.0

As a friend, I'd offer to pay half. A good friend would be worth it, rather than quibbling.Member #14 of SKI-ers club
Words, words, they're all we have to go by!.
(Pity they are mangled by this autocorrect!)0 -
He was careless. If you pay half it will not encourage him to be careful in future. Driving is a minefield nowadays and a chap I was a passenger with went into a bus lane and was fined. I should have told him as I saw it but that would be like telling him how to drive . You have to take responsibility when you get behind the wheel of a car.1

The person driving the vehicle is responsible and that's it, would he expect you to pay half if he got done for speeding too, or maybe running a red light?

It's a friend, friend's help each other, if you can afford to help then do, if you can't, tell your friend why they will then still be your friend, whatever you do your friendship is the important thing not the money.0

Encourage him to challenge the parking fine, help with the knowledge you’ve gained from MSE, the interaction will strengthen the bond of your friendship
If your appeal fails help him with the cost
You could have a “ Parking Fine Party” at home with drinks & pizza, cheaper than a night out to defray the cost of the fine4 -
Probably a good gesture to pay half, misfortune happened to you both, but you both had a good day. And a metal piece of junk has to be parked somewhere. But it is a slippery slope, like what about a speeding fine acquired during a drive?0

I’m on the side of 1. How could we have both missed the signs? Therefore it’s worth contesting 2. The driver is the one responsible: s/he should pay 3. If they’re asking you to apply it, they obviously concerned about money. If you have it, pay the whole thing.0
