He sounds like the sort of teacher the children will remember with gratitude, @London_1. You're right to be proud of him.
Don't forget to cancel the veg box when you move!
We have eaten our way through most of the food left from a week ago! There are still carrots, cabbage, cucumber and consequent coleslaw. In an attack of enthusiasm I've just taken blanched swede out of the freezer so make into mash with the carrots, and am defrosting blackberries for DH to add to his tins of fruit. There was also a small amount of Mystery Something in a tub and Unlabelled Cooked Meat with freezer burn, both of which are defrosting to see if they are still edible.
I also have loads of lemon and lime wedges which I always forget to defrost in time to have with fish, so at some point they need a plan. Really, the freezer is a mess and needs to be defrosted as at some point the door has been slightly open and let frost in.
I also intend to try the walnut and parsley pesto today - it looked great in the photos so I have hopes!I think a bit of sunshine is good for frugal living. (Cranky40)

Reporting back to say thank you to @Pollie for this recipe: 6-Ingredient Walnut Parsley Pesto (5 Minutes & Easy!) - Key To My Lime.
It's an explosion of flavour and has helped with various oddments of things that needed to be used up. Parsley, parmesan, walnuts and olive oil all happened to be getting a bit elderly! I think I forgot to put salt in but it's quite garlicy so I've not missed it and what I didn't eat has gone in the freezer, so it won't be needed as a preservative. It made exactly a pesto jar full, but I did use less olive oil - about half a cup in total - as I like it quite thick.I think a bit of sunshine is good for frugal living. (Cranky40)

Fed DGS Ben bacon sarnies and we had a nice walk and natter around the park. the lake is definitely higher than usual because of all the rain we have had.
He is coming tomorrow again and will help me move stuff to my car so it can go to the CS, so more bacon out of the freezer tonight for fuel to keep him going.
Nothing bought or gone in the cupboards for a week now :0 which I'm pleased about and tinned stock slowly reducing. More of the salmon out for tomorrow nights dinner, it was so nice the other day I am more than happy to have some tomorrow as well, Three peppers to use up this week.
I may turn the freezer baskets out and find and remove all the chicken that left, defrost and make a curry, and use some of the peppers up in that. Its all going down nicely now top shelf of one of the cupboards totally clear now only another 7 shelves to goI really did have far too much stuff stored

I found a small gammon joint in the freezer that I bought for £1.25 just after Christmas. The oven was on so I I popped the defrosted joint into a roasting bag and it baked whilst I had other things cooking.
Unfortunately because I hadnt soaked it it was really too salty. So husband made some lentil, leek and potato soup and added the gammon in chunks. The saltiness has gone and theres a few good lunch portions.

I've been mostly using up bits and bobs of fresh stuff this week but I did manage to finish off the last of a big box of fake-chicken kebabs from the freezer that we bought in Costco last year for BBQs. As with everything from Costco it was enormous so it's created loads of room in the freezer! They were actually really nice in a wrap with added hummus, hot sauce and shredded red cabbage.
I think I'm going to do a bit of a 'tapas' meal for lunch today as we've got lots of small quantities of things that don't make a whole meal. It's going to include a bit of leftover veg tagine, a bit of leftover naan bread, some corn on the cob, a tiny bit of fried halloumi, hummus & carrot sticks & I think there's a pitta bread or two that could be toasted straight from the freezer. That should clear down the oddments. I just need to think about what we're eating for the rest of the weekend now!5 -
Tonights dinner is Hunters chicken from the freezer along with veg also from the freezer and banana and custard for pudding Just had cheese on toast with half a tin of beans for lunch
tomorrow I have dinner at DDs so I only have breakfast and lunch to sort out which is easy breakfast will be apple and cinnamon porridge from my stash and lunch probably an omelette with a slice or two of bread and butter from the freezer. I have surplus eggs to use up. another NSD today so 12 /13 this month

Yesterday I made a curry for dinner tonight using some of the frozen turkey crown reduced to £5.25 in JS last month. The rest of it was cooked, portioned and frozen for future sandwiches, stews, pies etc.
Also used up the remaining cheap carrots from Easter to make carrot, lentil and ginger soup. Made 3 ingredient cheese scones to accompany the soup using the remainder of a pot of yoghurt and grated cheese from the freezer.3 -
Seriously need this thread at the minute.
I need to have a good clear out of the freezer, fridge and cupboards as I am starting to find bits and pieces in there that really should get used asap or things are just morphing into the freezer and never leaving it.
So today whilst the weather is a bit hit and miss I will make a list of kitchen cupboards, freezer and fridge and see what I can juggle about and meal make with what I have.
Husband is away for two days so whilst he can be a bit fussy with what he eats - hes not a veg fan, not keen on sausages, doesnt like pasta much etc - me and my daughter will eat most things :-) so we can make some headway with the clear out and I might do some baking too since I know I have a fair bit of flour and eggs to use.
Time to find me again7 -
I've thrown out the rest of the home made coleslaw - was never too keen in that recipe and it's starting to taste 'funny'. I'm also going to chuck out the anonymous cooked meat (old and dry
) and small, small portion of unlabelled sauce.
We've had another salmon, pasta and sauce meal and there's a bit of the sauce over which I think DH will have on a day when I'm at work.
There are various veg to use up, as ever - I might look out a less acidic coleslaw recipe and make more tomorrow.I think a bit of sunshine is good for frugal living. (Cranky40)
