I think try the swede, carrot and nutmeg recipe!

I just dug up the rhubarb as it only has half a leaf left and put it in a massive pot on the patio where is was growing nicely before I planted it out. Looks like it will be a pot rubarb. I hope that works!

Also I used most of the Thai paste (it's lemongrass, ginger, garlic and basil) in with some mince pork and veggies for a kind of lettuce wrap pork. I also popped it in my lunch time ramen. It was blooming lovely. Think I might need more! (I know that's probably not in the spirit of use it up!)

PS @Rosetta92, there's a 'quote' button at the bottom left of each post on my screen - is there similar on yours?
Thank you - I knew there was a way to do it. Here is the definitive answer to the neeps question https://scottishscran.com/what-are-neeps/
And you’ll find loads more Scottish food inspiration on that site 😀 If you can’t find fresh haggis you can get it tinned - don’t be put off by how it looks when you open it, just mush it down in a pan over a low heat until it’s cooked through. I always have a couple of tins in my store cupboard for emergencies.

An excellent site, thanks @Rosetta92. The whole 'why are you calling a swede a turnip?' question is finally solved.

We go up to the Borders about once a year so I'm thinking of buying haggis and maybe freezing some, or asking those who go further north to get some for me.

Today I've finished up the pizza slices and salad leaves and thrown out some salad dressing that tasted wrong. I got the free bakery item from L!dl for spending £50 there last month: the very last low GI loaf on the shelf. They are really nice and worth nearly £2, so I'm pleased with that. Also, for the first time in ages, I saw they had £1.50 veg boxes but I was on the way to work so I resisted.

Coincidentally, and many of you will have read this ahead of me, I'm currently reading @Greying_Pilgrim's lovely diary and I've just got up to the bit where she links to a recipe for spiced swede cake. That link leads to yet more Scottish swede recipes. What have we started?!

    Hi All
Just popping in to say hello and refind some inspiration again.
Spent some of my evening last night with my daughter (13) using a chopper thingy that we brought and cutting up a load of veg  we used some celery, carrots, onion and green pepper in a spag bol and then cut up a sorry looking lettuce, some more celery and another yellow pepper and put it all in a big tub as an easy to grab salad that Ill add some cucumber too later along with some ham and boiled eggs for an easy lunch.

Tonight is things from the freezer. I have some frozen pork chops in there so will cook some of them up for husband along with some potatoes that need using up and add some frozen veg to it for an easy meal tonight.

Trying my best to reduce our food waste so have some little reusable tubs and a stick blender coming today at some point to start turning all our veg into soup if it starts to look a bit lifeless and with the garden starting to sprout Im hoping I can use a fair bit from there too. The goal is to only need to buy meat this summer!

    Time to find me again

Spouse is back on using up our unloved carbs - finished the bulgar wheat on Friday and then made a lasagne today, only one more box of lasagne sheets to go (plus some mystery noodles etc).

Freezer is filling up with 9 portions of beef casserole, 4 portions of lasagne and 4 portions of bolognese.

After a weekend with guests and an evening with our daughter and son in law, we have roast chicken and a portion of a Moroccan-style stew left. Also some salad ingredients, chick peas, ham slices, cheese, cake and biscuits and an almond milk that I opened then didn't use.

I've finished up a tub of hummus so I feel I'm getting somewhere. :D

The rest of the chicken is in the freezer and some salmon is defrosting for tomorrow. Some hummus is defrosting too, and I've given away most of a huge bunch of coriander that was far too big for me to use.

And this is (I think) quite funny. I was reading @Greying_Pilgrim's thread and she posts lost of interesting vegetarian recipes, so I've been clicking on links and thought this one for vegetarian Guinness stew sounded interesting. I think I have a  bottle of stout somewhere, but I was given it ages ago for Christmas puddings by a friend who passed away a few years later. I've looked up how long stout lasts, and the web says six months to a year. Then I looked back in my address book where I'd written in when this lady died. 2018.

So: she's been gone six years, and gave me the stout at least a couple of years before that. I'm thinking it might just be past its best. What do you reckon? :D

Ha, I just persuaded a friend who has been sober for 15 years (medical reasons) to clear out his alcohol cupboard,  he had 15 bottles of normal wine from 20 years ago. He said the vinegar smell was quite apparent! He also got rid of a load of dodgy homemade liqueurs he'd been gifted. He was going to keep some open whisky for baking but the cork fell apart in his hand.

We're tackling the tin cupboard tomorrow, shouldn't be too painful as it's the in-use cupboard rather than the stockpile cupboard (which is finally under control, yay).

Sounds very entertaining, @Cairnpapple! I'm not sure what's lurking in the further reaches of the top shelf in our pantry, but there are a few bottles of some sort. Thankfully I don't think any tins are reaching advanced old age, but it's a while since I sorted out the upper kitchen cupboards so I have a feeling I may have some interesting discoveries to report nonetheless.
