It's impossible to separate the effects of brexit and coronavirus.. people see what they want to see, fitting their specific slant on the subject.

Personally, it doesn't take long to look around the globe to see supply and staffing issues - which is nothing to do with brexit in those cases. However, I can't see brexit not having any effect, it's just very difficult to separate from coronavirus
A lot of the effects can be separated with a reasonable degree of confidence, eg. the shortage of drivers is largely Brexit related, the issues with importation of goods from China is largely Covid related. The issues with getting goods cleared between the UK and the EU (and the other way around) are Brexit related. The issues with getting a container from China to the UK are largely Covid related, the issue with getting the container from the UK port to a final destination in the UK are largely Brexit related, due to the shortage of EU drivers.

I move goods between the UK, the EU, USA and China, it is currently quicker and easier for me to ship goods to New York, Atlanta or LA than it is for me to ship them to Dublin, Berlin or Luxembourg. Getting goods from China to the UK, whilst a lot more expensive is not much more difficult than it was in 2019, getting goods shipped from Poland or Germany to the UK is a lot more difficult and a lot slower, although not much more expensive.

This morning I have been to Tesco, Lidl, Home Bargains and Asda.  North Scotland, and first day after the holiday, so getting anything here is a long haul. A few gaps here and there but nothing major so op's problem is likely very localised and making a mountain out of a mole hill.

Covid suspended new driver hgv tests for months and created a massive backlog.

The industry already had pre existing problems prior to both Brexit & Covid, a high number of staff leaving and low numbers joining.

It's just not possible to say how much of the current issue is Brexit and how much is covid.

OP just trying to be helpful and informative. Now must feel a bit battered and picked on. Opened a real can o' worms.

If Deleted_User's wife was shopping at 8am, for me that speaks volumes.

8am on the first day back to work, shelves are not properly stacked, even though I believe some Morrisons open at 7am *shudders*.

Leave him alone, he really did mean well!  Sorry, Deleted_User.   :)

Definitely a large exaggeration again .
Certainly where not empty yesterday , neither where other stores .
It's pedantic I know but in light of your mockery of poor old Deleted_User - I feel compelled to let you know that it is WERE and not WHERE!  Thank you.

I'm really now sure how the OP is beith helpful or informative?

They have stated a Morrisons shop (which they refused to say which one when asked) had "mostly empty" shelves according to their wife.

No considering how many Morrisons shops their are in the country and how vague they are by just saying "mostly empty" then i think you need to give more details of how you found this helpful or informative?

What point are you trying to make with those two scaremongering articles?

The premise of those is that people are assuming import companies don't know what they are doing and won't follow the new rules and then goods won't be allowed into the UK at foreigh ports, but there is nothing stopping them from doing it.
    +1 to this ^^^^.

    The articles say 'may'.
    Not 'guaranteed'.

The media are not doing us any favours by printing stuff like this.
    It just causes panic-buying.

Like the petrol shortage that actually wasn't - but was whipped up by irresponsible media articles.

I really doubt the articles in the link by the OP caused the 'most' or 'many' empty shelves in one Morrisons store on one day at 8am.
