Thanks for popping in crafting mad 🙂 I’ll join you in that then!

Thinking about it, I see no reason not to start right now and see how I go for the next couple of months, that way I could make any adjustments needed before trying for a whole year challenge.

I’ve bought a few bits from vinted recently for my holiday, a jumper identical to one I’ve had for a few years that got very shabby, sounds odd but I love it and managed to get another with tags on still. That was a success, the second hand ski trousers x 2 were not and didn’t fit. So I think there’s some issues buying second hand as apposed to being able to try on 🤔

I think I shall try this for the moment- a soft start if you like 😆

Ok to buy new and not included in challenge:

    Bras
    knickers
nightwear? Not sure about this as I buy a lot so may have to take this off the list 🙄
    Tights
    swimwear
    Socks
leggings/thin vest tops or pain thin T-shirts you might wear under stuff it’s hard to get used and good

Everything  else has to be bought from my new £20pm budget or from sales of old clothes I own of which there’s not masses left to sell as I gave dil loads to sell a few months ago.

This probably seems quite spendy still but a lot of my personal spending money goes on bits I see often in primarni….

NG, you know Primarni is not good - for your wallet or the planet! Their stuff is made not to last to keep you going back....

I think nightwear should be excluded from your exceptions - as long as you have something to wear. I.e. don't buy any more until what you've got has died a death (and this should really mean died a death - it's not like people see you in it!). Equally, maybe try not to buy any underwear until you actually really need some. Also thin tops and leggings - bought cheap, they won't last (the primarni effect again). Can you try to buy better quality but fewer - buy once, buy well is a good aim. Didn't you used to do a capsule wardrobe?

And why don't you get the ski trousers back on Vinted? Make sure you give better measurements than the person you bought from though.

How long can you go without buying anything clothing wise? Longer than you think, I bet!

Probably longer than I think yes! 😂

Although I agree with some of what you have said about primark, I have actually found some items last better weirdly, leggings being one example- I like their £4 ones, i tried river island/M&S / mint velvet
    and didn’t like them.
Same with next T-shirts, they don’t wash as well and last as long, I am however still pretty low end high street so maybe that’s why the quality is not brilliant.

Happy to hear any suggestions of what brands to try, I’ve been doing a bit of research of what colours I should wear (too much time in my hands 😬) and it’s cool tones, which is handy as this summer I had a blue/white/grey capsule wardrobe.

I think the biggest problem I find is fluctuating weight, even half a stone makes things a bit tight and also makes me want to wear less fitting clothes. However it looks like vinted is the key, as if I change size I can probably find the same item second hand and sell the old one 😊

Fair enough re Primarni - I know many years ago (I think when they were relatively new here) I had a pair of brown work trousers from there that just kept going and going and still looked good.

It's tricky to recommend - I buy t-shirts from Vinted and like White Stuff and Joules, but if I'm buying new I buy from BAM, which is definitely not cheap, but ethical and I've found to be well made. I'm not a leggings person, but if the ones from Primarni work for you and last, then that's probably better than trying to buy elsewhere in some respects!

Afraid I can't help with the weight issue, and I get that that could be a problem for investing in more expensive stuff, as while my weight fluctuates a bit, I've been lucky that I've always managed to stay a size 12 (or probably 11-13!). Is it worth keeping the other sizes in case you need them/can get back into them? Stash them somewhere completely out of sight?

Perhaps you could do a whole year, like Frugalwoods?!

definitely take nightwear off your list, it should last years.  I'm still wearing an over sized Disney t shirt style i bought from the pri store (stop calling it primarni, even in your head as it gives it connotations of class that it just doesn't have lol).  Not sure how many years old it is but I have a photo of me in it from 6 years ago and its still fine (I used to wear it as a tshirt over leggings as well as a nightie).  Getting a little thinner than it was but it will carry on until it actually holes as themadvix advises.  And I've only ever got 3 or 4 on rotation, that is including a summer one that doesn't get worn in winter.

Yes, if you've identified that store as an issue (and it is - just read your own diary back lol),  stop going in it for the next year.  And no, before you ask you don't need another Xmas downie cover for every bed in your house and xmas pyjama set for this xmas!  You buy them every year so they definitely can't be worn out lol.

All written with love ng, you can do it!

    Haha, you're right Daisy!

(Ahem, is now the wrong time to mention that the PJ top I'm currently wearing does actually have holes in in the sleeve? I started sewing a couple up and then realised that it was because the material was so thin.... but it's the only one I have and I hate buying clothes, so I'm sticking with it for now!)

And I agree about the bedclothes too - you can't need more!

😆 Thanks for the words of encouragement guys, I will now remove nightwear from the essential list!  Xmas bed clothes wise, I’m actually way ahead of you, I got them all out and washed them ready for December and have enough for a different set every week 😁 ☃️

Daisy I’m in a slightly cold sweat at the thought of not going in my favourite shop anymore 😢 ours even has a lovely little Disney waffle cafe in it, I think that must make it ok still to visit 😬

Southcoast, giving up nightwear? No, I think I’d rather never clear the mortgage, there’s a line and thats firmly it for me , as is no buying any clothes for a year 😱 weirdly I

As for the wearing out of pyjamas, dh has ones that are worn out, he doesn’t notice or care I’m pretty sure. Weirdly I read one of frugalwoods’s no buying clothes articles, not that one a different one, I shall take a look though.

Dh has taken my car to work to drop it for a while you wait mot as it’s cheap and round the corner from work, fingers crossed as the budget is zero as I emptied it for the car and home ins last week as it was sooooo much dearer. I’ve got £30 to go in the pot from nov and last year it was £35.
Yesterday I went to help best friend get a huge golf trolley for her dh birthday from Costco, and what did I find ( while looking at the clothes I wasn’t going to buy) but some waterproof ski type trousers for £17.98 including vat, much nicer than the huge thick ones I had bought for £39.99 from decathlon, so i bought them and then returned the others! I’ve taken the £22.01 and put it into my clothes pot along with this months £20 taken from my £100 pm personal spending budget.
