More spending done on some chicken and fruit and veg yesterday, £10.84 left in the budget 😩

Another Dr’s appointment yesterday, more blood and stool tests to do (sorry if tmi!) so fingers crossed that’s all clear, even if it is I will need to see a gastro specialist. Now sure how this will impact the holiday insurance, I guess it depends what’s wrong, we have an unmovable/unrefundable  fully paid cruise in November ☹️

We will have more clarity on dhs work situation soon hopefully, he’s told the guy in contact with the owner he wants more rent as he knows they are meeting today which is rare, they also need more money to cover the wages this month, so I guess he will decide whether it’s worth keeping the business or not. The other business we supply to that he owns has had a large rent rise as well apparently, not just sad on a personal level if it closes, but a historical one too. They opened in 1895, the same year as West Ham who were based just round the corner, both now have moved of course. We still have photos everywhere of the staff over the years, very defined roles of the woman’s sat at huge sewing machines and the men in rows standing at benches binding books with a very stern manger pacing around watching them. Such a shame these things die out, so many have gone in recent years.

Anyway, off out to take mum for a coffee at the shopping centre this morning, I’ve an empty house as dil is flat sitting for dd with the kitten as they are at a spa day, not in the mood to stay at home stressing so I’m off out and I could well end up buying something I don’t need in this state of mind 😆

It’s been a long week, still waiting for test results 😩 in better news though Dh has had some success with the rent! The difference between what they pay and what it’s worth was about £15k a year, and they agreed to his offer of £6k a year more for three years with a six month exit built in. The others and dh will keep their jobs for a bit longer at least, although that will depend if the owners invest and get involved with it at all. I thought dh would be really happy as he said this is what he wanted, I’m not convinced though he doesn’t seem that over he moon to me, I think the thought of leaving might have looked tempting.

I was hoping to draw some of this extra out towards the mortgage so we can knock a month or two off but I’m not sure he will agree to that (I do home finances he does work!) will do a bit of spreadsheet fiddling and see if I can come up with a good plan he might like.
Either way I appreciate how incredibly lucky we are that this commercial property that we were basically forced to keep when our business was going under and was given away (the new owner didn’t want the property just the business based where it was)  has turned out to be an amazing investment that has made the chance of dh being able to retire much earlier a possibility, it’s been a very long tricky road though!

Plans today are see Grand Tourisimo with dh and ds2 at the cinema, I’m also hoping to start work on the spare room, the last of dil’s rats passed away last week , well the one left had to be rehomed to a friend  as they can’t live alone, so we have a free room which is being decorated and possibly having some new laminate that my dad had left over. It will then be an office for ds1’s girlfriend for if they move in with us in the new year as they are looking to buy now and her lease runs out in December, both work at home for a few days a week and are sometimes in meetings at the same time so need a bit more space.

Great news on the rent agreement- it gives you a little security for the next 3 years.

I love that you always make room for you children and partners - it’s great to see that although life has slowed your mortgage free aims over the years, your aim of having fun and staying close as as family has totally been achieved.
  • Rent sounds really positive  I hope your DH will relax with it soon

Great news on the rent !

Sorry to hear the tests and not getting to speak with the doctor you're comfortable with. Sadly, it's so hard to get the same doctor these days. When I was a kid I don't know I knew that my doctor's surgery had a different doctor to my usual one.

Thanks guys, well the test results so far have come back all clear which is a big relief, just a coeliac blood test left on Tuesday which is not going to keep me awake at night worrying like the other tests 😆 where does this anxiety suddenly appear from when you hit a certain age!

I’m in York with dh as it was his birthday Friday, he’s very stressed at the moment and talking of leaving work to go somewhere else, this is quite a surprise as he told me staying and getting the higher rent was what he wanted, we are not getting on great at the moment and I know it’s largely down to work. I don’t know, we are both all over the place at the moment 🙄

I shall check the finances if I have time today, we have been out and about since Friday, went to Thornton-le-dale yesterday where they film bangers and cash (never seen that mind 😬) which was a nice little village, had a nice sarnie and homemade cake in a cafe there next to a stream, plus we have been out for dinner both nights and are doing for a roast dinner today at our favourite pub which does the Yorkshire  puddings as big as your head, I so wish as I was born on Yorkshire not London 😩

    💙💙💙💙💙💙💙MONTH 11 OF THE 33 MONTH CHALLENGE💙💙💙💙💙💙💙💙

    Start balance 1st October 2022: £61,452.11

    Balance at 1st Sept 2023: £43,376.06

Total reduction since month one: £18,076.05

    Total reduction for August: £2041.76

Back on track this month somehow, no idea how and weirdly I thought I’d check my August update to see how much it was and I’d not done it, it was Julys update I thought I’d done very recently! Where is the time going 😆

    Plans for Sept :

    • Stick to the food budget
    • Survive the many many birthdays and one graduation financially
    • Do some cruise research and possibly booking for 2024/25 as I’ve noticed a bigger disparity with early and late prices recently.
    • Get the knitting back out if the weather cools down- I’m knitting a bed runner in very thick wool I was given by my Aunt that cost a fortune, wasted on me as I only knit straight lines in one stitch, it was either that or an exceedingly long scarf 😆
    • Decorate the SPARE ROOM , in capitals as I don’t think we have ever had one before! It’s going to be daffodil white with some photos I took and framed of York and Whitby Abbey, it’s York themed as I love it and it will be an office for ds1’s girlfriend who’s northern, although ds says I’m daft as she’s from Leeds so it’s pointless 😬
