I was wondering what dh would say/do. Seeing that for a long time he was against the idea of overpaying as he thought it would never be gone i hoped he would have a good reaction and really think for a moment about all the planning, the sensible plans, the mad plans, the plans that were never going to work but brought you another step closer, the challenges etc that you (and we lol) went through while he more or less just listened to your ideas and was able to carry on with his own thoughts and concerns being focused mainly about the business. Hopefully as it sinks in, he will be more liberal with celebrating your work than just an oh ok lol
Anyway its one thing off your plate, while you might have challenges ahead they would be more challenging had you not stayed focused on the mortgage. So enjoy it while you have it and don't worry if it all seems a bit of an anticlimax in a day or two. After so long plotting and planning, it often takes a while for something else to take over all the time we used to spend on thinking about mortgages. You have your multiple holidays to look forward to, the change of business to get involved in, possible house changes too so lots still to focus on

Well done on reaching a marathon size goalDON'T BUY STUFF (from Frugalwoods)
No seriously, just don’t buy things. 99% of our success with our savings rate is attributed to the fact that we don’t buy things... You can and should take advantage of discounts.... But at the end of the day, the only way to truly save money is to not buy stuff. Money doesn’t walk out of your wallet on its own accord.

Woohoo NG! 🥳🥳🥳 That’s fantastic news, well done!! All those mad schemes and endlessly rejigged plans have finally paid off!! Do enjoy and celebrate - regardless of the uncertainty and the cc balances (we had one of those for a while too).I’m guessing DH’s response may be coloured a bit by the uncertainty around work and the factory, but I’m sure in time he’ll realise how much of an achievement it is!Mortgage free 16/06/2023! £132,500 cleared in 11 years, 3 months and 7 days

Well done NG - such an achievement. It's not been an easy ride, but you've faced it all and 'done it anyway'. So inspiring! I sincerely hope it provides you with 'one less worry' at the mo. I did chuckle in recognition when you mentioned your hubbie's response to the news tho - sorry 🤭

Thank you so much everyone 😊 I think it might sink in a bit more for both of us once we know the situation with work and the factory, dh is exhausted at the moment trying to do lots of private work so people can order a couple of years worth of work instead of a couple of months to give them time to find a replacement for him, some of the customers he acquired from a friend who had been doing their work for many years so they don’t want to let them down. Yesterday for example he went to work at 3am and got home at about 9pm 😩 He is pleased about the mortgage I know, just snowed under, not for long though as now he has an extra week on the cruise haha😆
No gas today, I was in all day yesterday as they are replacing the pipes up our drive but couldn’t, so I’ve they will be here today again. Hopefully they won’t finish late as they need ton get in the house and dh is working late and I’m going to see the remote theatre show on screen of Dr. Strangelove with Steve Coogan tonight. The new 0% cc arrived yesterday and I’ve already registered and spent on it 😂 I booked an alcohol package and Wi-Fi the first week of the cruise so we have it both weeks now, I did look at the trips but I’m not sure I’m up for a full day out in Florence/Pisa/Rome we did this and missed them last time though 😳 it’s such a long day and quite dear going with the cruise ship excursion, but again a bit safer than DIYing it and risking getting back late. I shall mull it over, dh isn’t fussed as it’s not really enough time in Rome and we would like to go for a weekend there anyway at some point, I’ve been to Pisa and Florence already.Off out with best friend today who is the only one except dh in real life that knows we are mortgage free! She will be pleased for us and knows how much it’s taken to get here 😬 we will tell the kids in the next couple of years probably when we have paid everything off and have decided whether we will move etc. we are usually very open when it comes to money, ds1 and dd already overpay and ds2 is planning on it so it would be good to show them the end result, I don’t think now is the right time though as it may well be we are mortgage free then borrowing straight back 😆 I’m not sure I’d particularly want to tell extended family though, weirdly I don’t think it would go down that well and there would be judgement!MFW 67 - Finally mortgage free! 💙😁5 -
I think you've answered your own question re the trips - not long enough in Rome and ur going there on a long weekend sometime, dh isnt bothered and uve been to the other 2, its a long day (this cruise will be more about relaxing i think), its dear. Sounds daft to book them with all those reasons id say ?
Yes I'm sure some folk would be judgy with what uve said before, best just hug it to yourself like a lovely secret 😉 😊 also, if at some point in the future you have a mortgage again; its your own business, you'll have considered every angle, it won't be to fund something temporary and frivolous, and you know you'll clear it again but if it gives ammo to anyone to gloat in a superficial way you're better off without that to have to respond to.
Its nice we have this community who are genuinely happy for these people we've never met in real life doing their thing and ticking off their goals.

Hi Daisy, we will probably skip the big trips on this cruise. Actually we have now done a lot of cruises and only ever done excursions on two of them, one in Norway visiting Oslo, the Olympic ski park and a medieval village all in one day and then the ones in the arctic circle which is much harder to do yourself and still really dear independently. Usually we just wander off and mooch about, if it’s a city I’ll try and catch a tv show about it or lookup online the best places to see.I spent a bit of time looking at the finances last night, ideally we really need April’s pay/rent to clear the overdraft and May’s to put away spending money for our trip in sept. and my birthday mini cruise in August. I’ve no idea if we will limp on another two months, they are supposed or pay the rent until August which would be the six months notice. Dh has still no news, one work friend was told he needs to answer whether he is going or not as they will need to talk to dh soon 😱 so clearly everyone else gets a meeting an offer and they want everyone’s answers before they see him! He’s also been asked to do double the amount of private work by one of his biggest clients, he’s already working crazy hours so i suggested it’s too much and we don’t need the money we can dip not the offset if we need to pay the factory costs, he is not going to do that through apparently….I now instead of feeling guilty of booking another week on the cruise, think that it’s probably essential as he won’t stop working 😩 some days 18 hours this week, he in all weekend again too, left a while ago.Still on a brighter note, I am now off the horrid daily injections woohoo 😁 I think I’m going to waste a lot of time this weekend sorting through holiday stuff and getting clothes out to see what we should take, obviously I do dh’s packing always as well as he’s too busy 😆 I’ve bought quite a few toiletries to take away this week (from the grocery budget!) nothing fancy just stuff we have run out of really and some aerosol sun screen to try alongside the traditional stuff, bit worried about rubbing stuff on the chest scar, it’s fine I’m sure but I’m still careful, usually I’m a sit in the shade with factor 50 on type of person anyway 😬MFW 67 - Finally mortgage free! 💙😁9
