So sorry to hear re DH, the other employees etc what an awful way to deal with an already difficult situation..
Great though you nearly at mortgage end so you have room to breathe.
The dark blue sequin dress sounds fabulous!
Keep on going with the healthy eating/exercise , and if you are not tracking body fat (you can do it with calipers) or measuring yourself weekly (hips, waist , legs, arms etc) it is hard to see the initial changes. Muscle is indeed heavier than fatDON'T BUY STUFF (from Frugalwoods)
No seriously, just don’t buy things. 99% of our success with our savings rate is attributed to the fact that we don’t buy things... You can and should take advantage of discounts.... But at the end of the day, the only way to truly save money is to not buy stuff. Money doesn’t walk out of your wallet on its own accord.

💙💙💙💙💙💙MONTH 28 OF THE 33 MONTH CHALLENGE💙💙💙💙💙💙💙
Balance at start Oct 2022: £61,452.11
Balance at 31st Jan 2025: £5,012.37
Total since the start : £56,439.74
Total for January: £2,515.45
A good result mortgage wise for the month, I do feel like I’m wading through mud at the moment with regards to getting on track with the budget. I’ve overspent on food and misc. bits this month and have now added another £200 to the “debt tab” which will be cleared when we are mf in April, taking it to a total of £1200 😩 Due to trying to eat a lot better the food costs seem to have gone up, the total spending ended up being £551.14 and the budget was £420, not ideal when you do zero sum budgeting 😆
Oh well two months (hopefully) to go job loss permitting!MFW 67 - Finally mortgage free! 💙😁6 -
Look at that £5k mortgage balance though 😍!Mortgage start: £65,495 (March 2016)
Cleared 🧚♀️🧚♀️🧚♀️!!! In 5 years, 1 month and 29 days
Total amount repaid: £72,307.03. £1.10 repaid for every £1.00 borrowed
Finally earning interest instead of paying it!!!4 -

I know I feel like I should feel happier, it’s just we will possibly have to borrow back from the mortgage 😩 I would like to hit mortgage neutral the month I turn fifty even if that does end up happening 😆
Well I’ve found a perfect house on rightmove, a two bed 1870’s cottage, with a huge garden over 100ft with a garage, shed and a massive 24ft workshop! It’s semi rural, basically the last road on the outskirts of our town but up a dirt track in a small row, so a bit isolated perhaps. It’s £475k
which is maybe vaguely what ours is worth, it’s hard to tell. I’m hoping it sells straight away so I can stop daydreaming, I love the fact it’s quiet and a bit rural but also worry about not being a few doors up from the bus/shops/ clinic etc….mind you todays barky wake up call from the neighbours dog was 6.40 am, yesterday was 4.46am, so peace seems appealing! There’s always noise here.I got my mortgage statement for the year -hooray! The figures differer slightly due to us having an offset (so we paid off a bit more, about £2,200more) but the actual mortgage part of it states January 1st you owed £54,556.22 and on 31st Dec you owed £28,525.95 (£20k was offset at end) that’s probably the biggest drop we have had on one year. I’m very happy seeing that as the bigger picture, it’s so easy to get bogged down in the day to day challenges. It also means our minimum payment has now dropped from £369.28 to £201.53 per month, this is helpful if we need to use the offset money again if things get sticky and our income drops temporarily.Interest charged last year was £1795.61 and interest saved by offsetting was £773.02, so total interest paid of £1022.59 🙂
Dh is at work today, things are still stressful as I found out something inadvertently through my parents that my brother (who dh put forward as manager this year) was asked to do by the bosses which he’s not mentioned to dh ☹️ Anyway, dh will be careful I think what he says now.I think dil is at work too today which means ds2 will force me to accompany him to the cinema u less he has plans to see his friend, that’s fine by me, the only other thing i have on is a food delivery 😊MFW 67 - Finally mortgage free! 💙😁6 -
Do you know what your balance would have been if you’d not overpaid? You’ve put yourself in the best possible position.
