  • Hi sorry to hear that. The exactly same thing happened to us, we ended up buying a fixer upper 20 doors down on the same road! The people who got the perfect house were downsizing and mortgage free and had already completed on their sale.  No way we could compete, as the vendors needed a quick secure sale. We are slowly turning our place into “the dream house”.
    Take care CM

Sorry to hear your news, understand how gutting it can be. When we were "homeless" (having sold our house in a week and completed in under eight weeks with nowhere to go except a friends spare room) we made offers on six houses and four of them went to people who offered less than us. One house came back on the market and we offered again and they still went with someone else for less. At one point I said to my husband "Do we need to dress smarter for viewings because EA's clearly don't take us seriously!" The house we ended up in is really lovely and was the cheapest by far (£100,000 less than the most expensive one we offered on) So I'm a big believer is 'what is meant for you won't pass you by' but remembering that in the moment is sometimes hard.

    Good luck and best wishes!

    Thank you all.

I just went to try and book a viewing for a house that has the open day on the weekend, but they're all booked up already, have added me to the waiting list. I saw it in Saturday actually but just didn't book it then because we were viewing so many houses.
I think we have a better idea of what matters to us following the first round of viewings, so are more selective already, which I guess is a good thing? Not really sure, just feeling quite deflated today. Work continues to be a bit of a nightmare atm as well, so I don't think that's helping.

I agree with the above sentiments.  It just means there is something better waiting for you.  On my second purchase I got all the way to sitting in the solicitors office to sign when it all fell apart (long list of issues over 6 months but the final straw was the EA had agreed a different price with the vendors which only came to light at signing 🤦‍♀️).  Anyway about 6 weeks later I bought a 1927 semi which was a similar price, I fixed up to my tastes and sold 16 years later (with sadness) for a very sizeable profit.  The original house came back on the market a few years after I’d tried to buy it and stayed on the market for nearly 2 years!  I know it’s hard at the moment and you both feel deflated but Fate will step in and guide you 😁
Gosh that sounds so stressful! That is great that you managed to find a house that really worked for you though <3

Only just saw this now -  thank you so much <3 That sounds so hard, so sorry to hear you had to go through that. That is great that you ended up finding somewhere that works really well and under budget as well x
  • Something will come through Julicorn don’t worry, we had a number of houses “ones that got away” and it all fades when you’re finally in a house you can make your home. It’s a roller coaster though!!

Lovely support on here, julicorn - you can tell that you'll be fine from what you can read on here, but as powerspowers has just written, its a rollercoaster - and that never feels good if you'd rather be on the flat!
