We had a really old apricot tree at our last house. It was very sheltered and against a west backing wall. That worked well. The trouble with any stone fruit is the danger of bacterial canker though

    Afternoon all
I have been absent from the boards for a while but you know when they say it never rains, but it pours.....well we have had a proverbial sh&t storm this end.
Husband got covid, family were ill, my phone broke and I didnt realise how much of my every day life used a phone and how many things need double verification which usually ends up being a text message and now £95 lighter for the fix - here I am again!

Anyway on the garden front - my poor greenhouse basically roasted my tomato plants which I have now moved outside to try and save them! Peppers seem to be growing well and happily though.

I have had a few more courgettes.
My green beans have produced all of 2 pods.
My cucumber plant that I managed to save has now thrived and taken over the while bed so I have had to net it to the fence - I harvested my first cucumber today - I have another 2 large ones on the vines and about 5/6 more that look to be turning to cucumbers with lots more flowers. I have another 3 plants to do something with too so I may put them round the garden in other areas to make sure I really maximise the harvest from them.

Havent planted carrots yet for winter but did try sprouts and cabbage but I think I may need to reconsider or I can hopefully save what is left of them.
    Ive pulled all my peas.
Leeks seem to be doing well.
Last of the lettuce leaves are going.
My strawberries have put down runners and my 3 plants have now become (at least) 13 plants and still going.

Seriously need to look at maximising space, water storage, and succession planting for next year.

My first ripened Italian tomato. There was a lot of core but it was really delicious!

I suspect that might be what's happened to mine - lots of side shoots falling off, one or two plants look as if they're heading for the bin. Oh well, first time for me, so I'll try to do better next year. Plenty of very small toms on some of the plants, though.

Yeah mine have all drooped and are just looking sorry for themselves in general so I have moved them outside and at the minute in wales we have a drizzling kind of rain that Im hoping will give them a good feed and I will tomatorite them as well at some point when I move them to a sheltered spot.
I have been out and checked too and I have at least two big cucumbers on my plant that are about 10inches long so they need to come off soon and I have several that are looking to grow into cucumbers soon as well.
I will wait for the next dry day and get planting a few more bits out and about.

I have ordered seeds as well ready for next year from a cheap seed site that I had all mine from this year that seem to have worked well and I am making the list of things I have managed to grow well to keep growing on next year.

@MissRikkiC that looks so delicious! The green beans are now almost done producing, picked the first few pears, they busy ripening. Steady flow of tomatoes, but didn't realise a small variety, size of gholfballs. Will plan better next year.
Chard and blackberries still going well.
At home the cucumber finished, the small yellow pear tomatoes steady flow.
@sammy_kaye18 i already got most of my seeds on w1lk0 and local garden centre sale, but keeping my eyes peeled for more!

My cucumbers have only just started producing here in south wales! I have had 3 so far and I can see another 3 that are growing quite nicely
I have two courgettes ripening away too and my strawberries are putting out runners.

I am going to take the kids out today though and do some blackberry picking and see if we can gather enough to make some jam.

@carinjo I can message you the name of the website I use if youd like (Im not sure if Im allowed to post the name incase its seen as advertising but Im not connected to it at all) but I have gotten a lot of seeds for 29p and all the ones I have planted have been from there this year and have all germinated and produced although I think I was a bit hit and miss with the 2 beans I got. Everything else has been good though and I have brought some herb seeds to put into christmas presents this year.

@sammy_kaye18 i don't think you have to worry about posting info about where you got a good deal, that really what MSE is all about! Even if you just post the company name with a few edits, like i done with W1lk0's earlier.

Thats fair enough - I didnt want to get in trouble.

The website is called BudGet Seeds so if you google it it will no doubt pop up and I have had flowers, veg, fruit and herbs from there and they have all grown perfectly and I have some for gifts this year for christmas.

Cheap postage too and a free pack of seeds for the bees

I have picked most of our squashes early so they aren't too enormous and I think the greenhouse cucumbers are just about done as their time is over. Plums and raspberries are finishing and apples coming. Sadly we don't have pears but one of the places we have bees does. Beans have been awful in the runner department and I will think seriously about next year.

We plan to build a fruit cage for 2023 and so moving and taking cuttings are on the agenda for currants (black and red), gooseberries and strawberries. I have two bare rooted leveller gooseberries coming in October or November so we need to clear the squash debris and get going with the cage as two raised beda are going to be the basis.
