Due to work and the heat done a couple of 5am sessions. Tidied the brassicca tunnel, only lost 3 plants in the end from bolting. Harvested a punnet of dwarf green beans.

We are going away tomorrow for nearly a week so yesterday, I recruited a friendly neighbour to keep picking, and do a bit of watering, so that there is some left when we get backSave £12k in 2025 #2 I am at £4863.32 out of £6000 after May (81.05%)

Tidied the tomato beds friday. Braved the allotment this afternoon after work. Gave everything a good soak. Tidied the chard&spinach. Harvested the shallots and a handful of french beans. Found a few barlottis from the first sowing that got eaten by birds, the second planting starting to form and not an aphid in sight! Harvested a half punnet of blackberries and red gooseberries for ms C. In the afternoon sun the gooseberries were like warm syrup, delicious. There hundreds and hundred on 2 bushes, ms C been tasked with harvesting the rest tomorrow morning.
One of the pumpkin babies disappeared. Can't see where it might have been eaten, so fingers crossed the new flowers turn into pumpkins.
I pickled the gifted cucumbers from last week, one will go to mr D as a thank you. His pollytunnel got a bit hot, all the lettuce died. I am attempting to rescue his runnerbeans that got a massive aphid infestation and one of his tomato corners struggling. He only back on the 22nd, so will spend some extra time looking after his plot along with one of his mates.

Some of my tomatoes have blossom rot. When @Suffolk_lass mentioned consistent watering of tomatoes, i prepared myself, since i skipped several days at a time last few weeks. On my big seeds, the pumpkin and some courgette just start forming and then they go brown and fall off. Not sure if i overcompensated and watered too much. It's good for the soul to walk with your soles on the soil.0

It might be that your squashes haven't been fertilised which causes them to drop off. Lots of hover flies, bumble bees and even wasps will help. I've never seen honey bees on squashes, but then, our garden is full of blues and purples at the moment, which they preferSave £12k in 2025 #2 I am at £4863.32 out of £6000 after May (81.05%)

@carinjo a few of my tomatoes also have blossom rot, only a few affected so far though so I'm hoping the rest will be fine.
I made a bit of a mistake with the garlic I planted in my strawberry bed, it was only there as a pest deterrent and seems to have worked well but I stopped paying attention to it weeks ago and realised yesterday the leaves have all died back and it's ready to harvest. Only problem being the bed is mulched with straw and the dead garlic leaves blend in too well, I've managed to find 3 bulbs and can't remember exactly how many I planted but was between 5-8 cloves so I have 2-5 missing bulbs. I'm guessing that if I just leave them in the ground they'll just resprout? I've never left garlic in before so not sure what will happen to it. Not the end of the world but mildly annoying.
I harvested my first ever blueberries yesterday too, not many growing this year but I got a few ripe ones with a couple of dozen more well on their way.0 -
@Fosterdog new garlic will grow, when it does but a stick in to mark the spot.Mortgage started 2020, aiming to clear 31/12/2029.1

@Fosterdog also, when it sprouts, I have been known to dig and separate it outSave £12k in 2025 #2 I am at £4863.32 out of £6000 after May (81.05%)

If ever i have a poor me moment, remind me of this day: 1.7kg red gooseberries from ½ a bush(half!!!), 2 punnets french beans, handful beetroot, courgette, 1/2 punnet blackberries, 2 pointed cabbage and a big armful of chard/perpetual spinach mix.
Pruned the pear tree according to G@rdener's W0rld advice.
A big bumblebee visited the pumpkin and butternut this morning, hope it comes back to pollinate the female flowers later.
Going to leave the rest of the first planting of dwarf french beans for the pods to swell up. On the back of packet the french bit says haricot, so want to keep the seeds for next year.
No further blossom rot on tomatoes, so fingers crossed.
Ms C done her back in, but she still managed to tidy up the tomatoes, cucumber and herbs at home this morning.

I’ve been off the boards due to life getting in the way but thankfully not away from the garden!Remaining peas were picked and then the remains lifted leaving some space against the trellis for something else. Considering peas again but also the cucumber might do okay there and maybe a little row of beans? All my spinach went to seed but I’ve loved having it from the garden and throughly enjoyed it so now it’s cooler, I’ve resown some more. I also ate all the cos lettuce si resown that too.Shallots lifted and the space used for perpetual spinach and rainbow chard, and have some more carrots gone in along with beetroot.Kale plugs purchased from the GC and some cabbages started off in modules which have all taken off well. The kale has gone in already and letting the cabbage seedlings grow on a little more (aka waiting for something else to come out so that I can get them in the ground!)
We’ve been harvesting courgettes and loving that the squash seems to be working heading up the trellis. We even have our first squash formed so excited to see how it goes.Tomatoes are not productive at all this year which I’ve mentioned before, however all is not totally lost. We’ve got a handful on each plant and they’re being fed and watered regularly so I think we will have a very small harvest. I’ll count them up when I next go out and you can all commiserate with me at just how few we have
All of the potatoes are up and out. Is now about the right time so consider Christmas spuds??Container produce.
Herbs. Coriander is taking over! How do I stop it? I’ve given away and picked (and frozen) a lot! If anything I’d prefer the basil to do this!
Cucumber. I was late to the party and just bought a plug but it’s flowering so well! It’s not self fertile though so think I’ll maybe need to help the bees out?Peppers. There are little buds forming but should I be seeing more than this? We have chilis and peppers (sweet pointed I think) and they’re all the same.Corn. I know very little about this, however I purchased 10 plugs and planted them however 7 died. We had 3 left and 2/3 have done really well in a container in the greenhouse. They’re tall and they have tassels but the middles which I assume are going to be the corn are out already? Is this normal? Amazing what you CANT seem to find out from Google!Aubergine. Again late decision to have this and it’s in the GH. We have a few flowers but may well be too late for these this year.Follow here for the daily life of an ADHD mum with 2 children and a new mortgage to pay
