Anyone had a response from BSB yet? I sent them a request for all the information they hold on me about 7 days ago and also asked about the data breach, still waiting a response, I know they have 30 days but thought they would have sent some response by now.
Their Data Protection Officer is ryan.kenure@thebsbco.com
  • Still no reply from BSB so have sent a complaint  to ICO

So I finally got this response from BSB this morning:

    Good Morning,

I understand that there will have been some worry regarding the scam emails that you had received regarding your Brilliant Energy account. I can now confirm that the investigation is now complete and we have successfully managed to get the phishing companies bank accounts closed and blocked. We have liaised with action fraud throughout the process.

We completed a full interrogation of our internal systems and based on the data that the scam company had and all connections to our company we summise that the data did not leak from our servers. We believe that the leak was at the source of the data as we had far more information available that the phishing company did not have.

    Kind Regards

    Ryan Kenure

I have responded asking them to confirm what they mean by 'We believe the leak was at the source', I think the are suggesting it came from Brilliant Energy, but I find that hard to believe as the amount being asked for by the scammers was the amount I agreed with BSB not Brilliant Energy.

They have also yet to send me what data they do hold on me, I asked for this well over a month ago so I have also reported them to the ICO for not complying with my request.

@ZackMSE Well encouraging that you got a reply, still awaiting a response....

they have managed to write lots whilst saying nothing other than it was not us because we said so....

BTW did you include in your response that the only common denominator between the 3 now defunct energy companies customer databases (Solarplicity, Northumbria Energy, Brilliant Energy) is BSB and that you are aware the scammers are getting same scam from 3 different energy companies that BSB were appointed as agents

  • @MAN_UK Very good point, I have added that as another response to BSB.

I have also been on a chat with Action Fraud who won't or can't give any details about any case that BSB may or maynot be involved in and suggested I talk to the ICO.

I filed a case with the ICO on the 8th Feb as the first case I sent I didn't even get a response on. The ICO are telling me they will look into it but there is a huge backlog and it could take at least 3 months before a case worker will be assigned.

I have just come off a chat with the ICO and they reconfirmed this:
We aim to assign case officers within three months of receipt. However, at the moment we are operating outside that timeframe due to the number of complaints received. So, it will be around three months, or possibly a little longer, before a case officer is assigned to your case
  • Just had a different email asking me to settle my account but this time from a different outfit supposedly called powercollections.  Again, it is the amount of my final bill with solarplicity.
Really irritating. I have already complained about this to BSB who never responded; have reported to police, action fraud and ICO  (and my MP, who is following with interest).

@Evansy451 Still nothing from BSB or ICO. BSB have had nearly 2 months to reply to me with my request for what data they hold on me but they have still not sent me anything. And I am beginning to wonder why we have the ICO.
