I tended to add up at the end of each month too. Though I also have a spreadsheet as I love them
I think I tidied just over £1 yesterday so not much. I started well last year as I had a few big refunds that I tidied away rather than just keeping in my account. My bank also rounds up spends and puts that money away too. So I don't like whole £ shopping totals 😉
Pushing the pennies around to try and make pounds...

@Breezyboo hi👋 welcome to the Tillys.

It looks like we all have different ways of keeping our totals, have thought how you're going to record yours?

  • Has anyone tried the moneybox app for this purpose? My bank doesn’t do roundings unfortunately. That said, at the moment we are using the cash method whereby you have 4/5 envelopes depending on the amount of weeks that month and place the amount you have to live on that week in each….I’m hoping that will reign things in, however, in reality I think what’s going to happen is oh will go out with no cash and the bank account will end up in worse shape  If we keep the cash method I may need a jar or something!

MrM and I used to do the cash envelope method but now so many shops are contactless we stopped. This is why I opened my Monzo account. I put my personal spending in there and the pots are an added bonus so it's also where I keep our sinking funds for all the future payments of car insurance etc. MrM is resistant to another bank account and keeping any record of his spending. To be fair he doesn't spend much, the odd bet or pint at his football club.

Another app I used to log my spending like a diary was called Wallet. It was free and worked for me.

Belated Happy New Year to everyone posting on herethumbsup

Good for you, starting the challenge, Naomim.  It's certainly been revitalised since the 2021 one where it felt like I  was often the only poster for weeks on end talking to myselfsobdropjawO.  You have lots of enthusiastic joiners alreadyhigh5.  Good luck to allgl.  I'm not doing the challenge officially this year (although it's now a way of life for me) but I'll be cheering you all on from the sidelines.  Remember, everyone, that 'little and often' where saving is concerned really does workyay.  I proved that to myself last yearcloud9.

    Stay safe, everyonethumbsup
Thanks for the support @Fidelia please check in on us every now and then. 🙂

  • Hi 👋

I'd like to join this year please.
Over the years I have TT but not on a regular basis.
I'll be saving mine to make an additional payment to my car loan.
I don't know how much I'll save so I'll aim for £100 to start with and see how I get on.
I have little savings accounts syphonend off from my main account, similar to my £1 a day for Christmas account.
Right I'm off to TT 😊

Previously when I worked in cash I'd have a money box and any loose change (20ps and less) would go into that and I'd count at end of month... used to get quite a bit of change!  But as said iv moved to monzo because of contactless shops though I still rather cash as I find with the cards i spend more and miss the loose change hence why I started on here!

Same as you my other half isn't so keen but out of our joint spending monzo account iv put on the round up .... he knows and I said it'll be fun to see what we get at end of month.

He's ok as he hasn't got to think or do anything.
  • Just done my first TT £5.33 😊 so going to update my signature.

  • We find the same @scrimpandsave Mr M_F forgets to use the cash if we try that method and it all goes heywire.
Btw is it wrong to want to go spend money so I have something to tidy 🤣🤣
