I think I've mentally already spent some coupons for this year (just not clicked buy now) as I found a rather wonderful wrap/shawl/bed end throw pattern to attempt to crochet. It only uses two stitches (both of which I can do), but involves colour changes - which I am yet to attempt
Calculated needing 12 balls of yarn for it - eek! So many coupons!!Wealth is not measured by currency6 -

12 coupons, @CAFCGirl? Eek.
Colour changes in crochet are easy. You start the next stitch with the new ball/colour of yarn. The best bit is that you can crochet over the ends, so that they are hidden in the fabric and you don’t have to weave them afterwards.

You can crochet over the thread of the yarn that you aren’t using. It may be worth practicing with some scrap yarn.
What is the pattern, @CAFCGirl?

Afternoon everyone, Happy New Year and welcome to our newcomers!
I'm up again for this year's challenge. Now, WRT coupons, I totted up what I spent last year, and it was 22 coupons. I know I carried over 21 coupons from the year before so I didn''t really spend very much at all. What I am going to do is to buy some wool with the rest of last year's coupons ( 13 balls of 50g) as there is a Fair Isle jumper I would like to attempt. I've only been eyeing it up for the last two years! But once that is bought, I would like to start afresh with just 66 coupons, if that's ok.Sealed Pot Challenge no 035.
Fashion on the Ration - 24.5/66 ( 5 - shoes, 1.5 - bra, 11.5 - 2 pairs of shoes and another bra, 5- t-shirt, 1.5 yet another bra!)6 -
Afternoon all, @CAFCGirl the crochet shawl/ wrap sounds lovely, as does the fair isle jumper @CapricornLass. I can’t knit at all, my sister inherited those genes.I would like to make a smart dressing gown to go with my me-made nightdress. (A futuristic 50’s pattern!) Something with buttons that will stay shut. I always find the belts on modern ones have a habit of coming undone, usually at the most in opportune moments. So adapting a pattern I already have, I need to work out how many coupons it will take to make. I think I will line it by repurposing an old dress or using some old sheets, to keep the coupon count as low as I can. But before that I need to finish off a slip to replace an old, old one.8

@MrsCatz, if you already have fabric, your dressing-gown won't take any coupons; if you buy fabric, it is 2 coupons per metre for non-wool, and 3 coupons a metre for wool (any width).
I bought some very heavy gorgeous shell-pink furnishing-satin years ago and a 1940s-Hollywood-starlet dressing-gown with a seriously good overlap (like each opening-edge reaches to the opposite side-seam!) has been cut out for... er.... three years now? Four? I started throwing it together and made a total pig's-ear of it, not paying enough attention so dismantled it and pressed all the parts and need to start again...
A good dressing-gown is definitely a useful thing!2025 remaining: 37 coupons from 66:
January (29): winter boots, green trainers, canvas swimming-shoes (15); t-shirt x2 (8); 3m cotton twill (6);
.
2025 second-hand acquisitions (no coupons): None thus far
.
2025 needlework- *Reverse-couponing*:11 coupons :
January: teddybear-lined velvet jacket (11) & hat (0); velvet sleep-mask (0);6 -
Thanks for the warm welcome.
Tomorrow I'm going to drag my summer clothes out and see what I need not want. I have plenty of dress patterns but I'm not very good as I seem to be a strange shape so nothing seems to fit very well, but I have started following a few people on the 'tube' sewing so I'm hoping to pick up a few tips and if not perhaps flowing ones are the answerI even have some material and my wool stash could make a few jumpers and pairs of socks if my wrists didn't ache so much.
Agree about good dressing gowns, I have two, one summer and one winter, love them both and both are getting on in years now.

@CAFCGirl, is it worth trying E bay or similar for yarn? I know it's a bit of a long shot for those quantities but if second hand, it would be coupon-free.I think a bit of sunshine is good for frugal living. (Cranky40)

Can I just ask a question please? If I make a garment out of another one ie a top out of a dress bought from a charity shop, do I count that as no coupons or 5 coupons? I know it's late but just finishing my bedtime coco, and it popped into my head.
