Cherryfudge - If you are out and about it's worth keeping your eye open for wildlings (apple trees that have grown up in various places from discarded apple cores and the like. I've had some substantial hauls of apples that way for crumbles, chutneys, jams etc. Also crab apples are often grown as an ornemenal tree in parks and the like. there are a couple in a little park right in the middle of a village not far away and they just get left to drop. So some years I go and get some for the crab apple half od hedgerow jelly and the like. Many thanks for the suggestions Laura - I had seen that Cranberry jumper and gave it serious consideration but didn't really want a polo neck. Your targeted search has worked much better than the one I did - I tried one with yardage but without the plus size. I think given that the wool appears to still be available I will risk the owl jumper (and go for the 7th size). I may get a couple of extra 50g balls in case I need them. Worst case I accept I'll be pulling it back or wearing it at home only or for camping!2024 Fashion on the Ration - 3.5/66.5 coupons remaining1 cardigan - 5 coupons13 prs ankle socks - 13 coupons5 prs leggings - 10 coupons4 prs dungarees - 24 coupons1 cord jacket - 11 couponstotal 63 coupons5

And on a related subject, what with rationing and all, I'm loving that so many apple tree owners are sharing their bounty for free or very little. We bought a few bags of small apples for a fraction of shop prices while we were car booting today, and DH got a few more from a give-away box while out cycling. I'm also buying the occasional L!dl £1.50 box of less-than-perfect fruit and veg, and batch baking potatoes (they always have potatoes in!) which I then freeze.
Oh and dont forget the free incredible edible garden in the Applegarth. I volunteer to do their watering on a Friday, and whilst there's not as much currently, there's still lots of tomatoes to ripen, some squashes, late courgettes and the herb planter can provide some lovely additions.Wealth is not measured by currency6 -
I think my next sewing project is going to be something similar to this: https://www.etsy.com/listing/881261157/smith-pinafore-dress-low-waste-pdf
I have a lovely fall-ish fabric that I'd intended to make a skirt with, but realized that there is nothing I'd wear it with. A pinafore, though, can be worn over my woolen dresses. I'm not sold on that precise pattern (I'm not fond of the slides on the straps, but do need one that I can make with corduroy.2023 Fashion on the Ration: Start with 66. Liverpool_Anne said:@TwibbleDee, I have made fingerless gloves following Pips excellent instructions posted earlier in the thread, sorry I can't find it now. I knitted them in the round as I wanted to try using dpns and it was quite easy. They came out quite good and used very little yarn. I have given them to my sister as they were made with the left over yarn from the shawl I made her for Christmas so I don't have a photo, plus I still have to work out how to post pictures
Take care everyone
I may try downloading the pattern and seeing if it's something I think I can manage.
Ohhhh! They have a video tutorial at the bottom! https://sheepandstitch.com/pattern/fingerless-gloves-knitting-pattern-step-by-step-tutorial/2023 Fashion on the Ration: Start with 66. Nightdress - 6 = 60 remaining.4 -
Whilst I have been taking it easy after a Hysteroscopy, I have crocheted a hat for my niece for Christmas. Mum gave me a left over, whole ball of merino wool and I used some leftover 100% Aran wool. I have made a Pom Pom to go on top but won't attach it until she receives it just in case she prefers it without. She will also have the option of a wide band at the bottom or having it turned up. This is the first hat that I have ever crocheted.I will need to adjust/increase the number of stitches if I want to make one for myself. The pattern increases until it gets to 55 stitches. I think I will need to to increase till 60-64 stitches. What would you suggest would be the best way to check?2025 Fashion on a ration 0/66 coupons

Would you believe I didn't know about the Applegarth garden till about two weeks ago when I walked past it with some friends?! Who runs it? I've seen the Secret Garden near there though I'm not involved with it, and I know some people who help with it.
I've PM'ed you about the forageables: I think I found the route you mentioned.I think a bit of sunshine is good for frugal living. (Cranky40)

@Gem-gem, I don't know enough to advise on the increases in the next hat, but the one you've already made looks super. A lovely colour palette and it looks as though it would keep the heat in beautifully. Perhaps attach the pompom to a safety pin so your Mum can wear it either way?I think a bit of sunshine is good for frugal living. (Cranky40)
