Gem-gem said:Finished the summer poncho, adapted the pattern by a) using the next size up crochet hooks and b) included three extra layers. If the 10 balls of wool bought, I have only used 5.5 balls. So will have to think what I can do with the 4.5 x 50g of wool. This is the first item if clothing that I have made.Surviving the ups and downs of life with DH

@Gem-gem that poncho is beautiful and beautifully crocheted. Your stitches are very even. May I ask: what thickness is the yarn and how many metres are in each ball? I can’t really give advice on what to do with the leftovers, without knowing these details.kurich said:PipneyJane said:

Good evening everyone, thank you for your kind words about the poncho.Mrs CD - a hat would be a possibility - especially if I can add another colour to it.Laura_Elsewhere, I totally agree with you about wearing at home as an extra layer. I do like wearing ponchos in the car instead of a coat too.PipneyJane, the wool is a double knit (75% extra fine merino, 20% silk, 5% cashmere))

You have yourselves a wonderful thread here. It's taken a a handful of weeks but I have read a lot of what you do here. The knowledge within is vast. Could I join you as you post about what you're doing as the year draws on? I would like to take part in the new year but until then could I just applaud you from the sidelines?Liv

Well done on your staying-power!
Why not join us? Conveniently, we're just coming to the end of the 8th month so you could see how you do with one-third of the year on one-third of the annual coupons, 22 coupons for four months?
You and @kurich are both new arrivals here in our little village of Much Mending on the Borrow - you're very welcome. Do pull up a chair and have some biscuits. Now where did I put that biscuit-tin? Why on earth can I never find it - I swear that tin grows legs at night and goes running off...2025 remaining: 37 coupons from 66:

@enkeltliv, oh yes, no coupons for things you had before rationing started for you! Which is why there were some very inventive ways to turn men's trousers into a little girls' overcoat and suchlike
I'm just decreasing after the heel on a sock, although goodness, I'd better not mention that it's Zauberballe wool from Germany, oops
I'm planning Xmas presents to make for my family, and my Aged P will have his arm-warmers knitted in British wool, as he would particularly enjoy knowing it's local sheep, and all the processing is by small businesses, finally being sold by my beloved Ewe & Ply by mail order to meHe likes my presents to him to support local small businesses when possible!

Welcome @enkeltliv. Cup of tea? Please have a biscuit with your cuppa. (@Laura_Elsewhere I've found the biscuit tin. It was put in a cupboard so that the dog couldn't knock it off the counter. He's worked out how to open it, by wedging it in a corner and then scratching the lid off.)
I've never heard of Woolyknit. Please tell me more!

I too like Crazy Zauberballe for socks @Laura_Elsewhere I have some leftovers that I'm pairing with Drops Fabel. I was going to put them into socks but I'm now thinking wrist warmers would be very useful. I'll have a think. 😊
Hi @PipneyJane Woolyknit sell Britiah yarn cones at 500g for £22. It comes as 4ply but I split the cone and use 2 strands for DK weight because I don't like knitting thin fingering weight type garments. They also sell acrylic though so watch what type of cone you choose. I have tried their 90% merino 10% nylon cones of sock yarn but I really didn't like the knitting process because with just a 10% nylon the merino is under a very high twist for strength. It has no give at all as a result. It was harsher than knitting with cotton. Never again.
