@Gem-gem I am toasty. Not looking forward to walking to the drycleaner's after work to collect one of my suits.
Your blanket looks lovely! I'd go for double crochet or slip stitch in the pale grey, something that would blend in and just flow around, making the existing edges look even but not thickening them up visually, if that makes sense? Either that or do a statement edging with a round of the black and a round of the white, in the main pattern stitch, then edge in grey with whatever stitch was used for the final round in grey.

Gem-gem said:Good afternoon ladies, I hope you are not overheating. I have just sewn
my blanket together and want to edge it. Would you, oh wise ones, edge it in dc, htr or tr??
From experience edging smaller things than blankets, I find I often put in an extra stitch every few stitches, ie if I'm working an edging along ten crochet stitches I would probably do two and add one, three and add one, two and add one... a bit of trial and error, but you don't want the edging too tight or it pulls all your hard work into puckering, and you don't want it too loose or it all sags around unevenly!2025 remaining: 37 coupons from 66:

No idea what stitch to use, I think it depends whether you want a bold statement or just a 'tidy up the edges' sort of frame. It's a fabulous blanket!Life is mainly froth and bubble: two things stand like stone. Kindness in another’s trouble, courage in your own.3

Lovely blanket @Gem-gem I like both of Pip's suggestions but I am more drawn to the statement edging description.Fashion on a ration 2025 0/66 coupons spent

I just saw something stating that the highest peak temp reached in the UK was 38.1C, 100.58F.
And of course I feel driven to point out that our high today is 103F, tomorrow is supposed to be 106F, and we only have 2 days this week forecasted to be UNDER 100F. I do believe y'all would melt here. I know I am. Today, I've drank half a gallon of water (~2L) with electrolyte powder in it, and it's only 2:30, not the hottest part of the day, but I've had to be outside for at least a bit 2 days in a row. Camping this weekend, then moving furniture on Tuesday...I do believe I'd best keep on top of the electrolytes and water.
In other news, my teal Wool& dress is exactly what I hoped it would be, but I'm debating on the orange as it is light enough fabric/color I'd have to wear nude undies under it. Which might be worth it with as hot as it is out. But I'd have to get new shorts for underneath.2023 Fashion on the Ration: Start with 66. Nightdress - 6 = 60 remaining.10 -
@TwibbleDee - remember almost no homes in the UK, and not all places of work, have any aircon... many don't even have a fan. We have no experience of temps in the 100s, and not much of temps in the 90s. Also, it's staying hot overnight tonight, so probably staying above c.77F, and hitting high-90s on the days either side, so with no air-con, you can imagine what that does to anyone with a heart condition or respiratory issues...
We've been ok today after a great deal of time preparing over the last few days, and we do have an air-con unit, a portable one that was being replaced years ago at Mr E's work, so he begged it. It's elderly but helps quite a bit.
I found it worse last week when we had a day that was only about 27 or 29C, so about 82-85F, but it was over 55% humidity and that was really bad. Thankfully this is only about 25%, which is unusual for the UK.
Wednesday is a high of only about 17-18C, c.75F, which is what it was a few days ago...2025 remaining: 37 coupons from 66:

I have a major dentist appt tomorrow mid-morning, so Mr E will have to drop me before 9am and collect me at lunchtime, so I plan to take crochet and book, and use the spare hours to explore cool shady places in the historic little town where my dentist is - I reckon the Norman church will still be cool - they built them to withstand anything a thousand years ago!!2025 remaining: 37 coupons from 66:

@Gem-gem, that's a lovely piece of work! Be proud.
My thought for an edging would be pointy triangles, along the lines of a pointed scallop. It you make them big enough it would be a dramatic statement for a dramatic blanket.
Why not try out a few bits of edges and see what you like best?I think a bit of sunshine is good for frugal living. (Cranky40)

@TwibbleDee I certainly would melt in those temperatures! As Laura says, most domestic properties have no aircon, no ceiling fans - many public buildings and offices don't have aircon. One of the problems today has been our many Victorian hospital buildings which weren't designed to cope with these extremes. And most of the London Underground lines not only don't have aircon, there's no headroom in the tunnels to add it.
I'm very impressed that you are able to.wear your wool dress in these conditions. Is it true then that it remains cool in hot weather?Life is mainly froth and bubble: two things stand like stone. Kindness in another’s trouble, courage in your own.8
