@MrsCD, I think the crocheter is a specific role in the play. Certainly, when I saw Mamma Mia live on stage, 15+years ago, there was a girl in the chorus who was crocheting.
@Gem-gem, it was Laura, not me. I’ve never made overnight oats but I would certainly be tempted, if I could find the freezer space for some frozen berries. I love Walter, BTW. He is gorgeous. Hope you are feeling better.
We’re off to the Commonwealth Games in a fortnight, so my thoughts have turned to packing my suitcase. (We’re staying up there with the friend who is coming to the games with us.) My plan is to take my small case. Once I’ve worked out my wardrobe, I’ll share it with you.
Of course, what to take along to knit is one of the bigger questions. It’ll have to be socks. I’ve knitted at the Olympics, the Glasgow Commonwealth Games, the tennis at Queens, numerous football matches and cricket games. Even took my knitting to Wimbledon. I’ve almost finished my latest pair, so now to find something self-patterning in the stash and knit that.

While I think about it, did I mention my haul from last weekend’s fabric swap at the Community Centre? We were there anyway - it was our regular weekend for the RPG club - when one of the local girls’ schools set up a “fabric swap” for charity. Each item had a coupon cost - £1 per coupon - and you were to buy coupons and swap them for the fabric on display. I hadn’t planned on buying anything, but thought I’d donate my £1 and have a wander around. I was almost their first customer.
< cough >
On a table at the far end of the hall, I found 3 metres of royal blue silk for 2 coupons and 6 metres of charcoal grey, wool/wool blend coating fabric for 4 coupons. The latter is quite soft, drapes well, but I don’t know for certain what the fabric blend is, while the silk was labelled. I know it isn’t cashmere because the lady manning the coupon counter told me about the lady who’d donated it saying that “she’d have labelled it, if it was cashmere, just like she did that silk.” £6 paid.
< cough >
I have been wracking my brain to remember a better description for the wool than “coating”. It might be “Melton”. Certainly, there was a fashion for suits to be made out of Melton, some time around 2012-2013. I scored one, in pink, with a mini-skirt, in a charity shop in 2014.
No coupons spent, but now I have enough fabric to make a silk lined, woollen suit - jacket, skirt and trousers. I will have to do some serious measuring, get my dressmaker’s dummy (Juliette) down from the loft, and dust off skills I haven’t used in 25 years. Oh, and buy a pattern. (Presumably, I can still wander into John Lewis and browse the pattern books.)

@PipneyJane - oh my goodness! How wonderful...
BUT do think very carefully about a silk-lined wool suit. I was so pleased with putting a lovely vintage-silk lining into Dad's old Harris tweed jacket but what I've ended up with is a jacket I carry a lot and scarcely ever wear because it's simply too darn hot!
Maybe think of a tailored proper long overcoat - wool lined in silk would work for that.... or use the silk for blouses to wear with the wool suit lined in something less warm?2025 remaining: 37 coupons from 66:

Hi all, I have just got back from a week travelling to see first my sister in Dorset and then my niece who is house sitting in Hampshire. While in Hampshire we visited the silk mill in Whitchurch. It was the day before a new exhibition but a lot of the display was in place, amazing woven art. I also bought a bobbin with silk thread. I am not sure what I will do with it, probably some kind of embroidery. They have an amazing range of colours and it was very difficult to pick just 1 but I chose what I would call peacock green. It shimmers and has a slight tinge of blue. I love it. My thought was when will I be here again? just get it
On the next day we went to the local community fair on the cricket pitch, lots of stalls selling home made things I fell for a quilt. White background with beautifully sea creatures appliqued on it in very realistic colours. It is about a meter and a half square and was such a bargain at only £20 I just couldn't leave it. I have no idea how many coupons it will be, maybe 8 working on a total of about 4 meters of cotton fabric, please correct me if I am wrong. Again I am not sure what I will do with it but it was too beautiful to leave. I will update my coupons when I am sure of the number used
Take care everyone7 -

@Liverpool_Anne - the quilt sounds lovely, as does the silk.
My thoughts are that it is a household item, so you spent one of those "special" coupons that you got following last year's bomb damage. It shouldn't come out of your personal coupon total. (Now, if you had a bed linen fetish and couldn't go past a bedding department without buying something, we'd make you count it. But you don't, so don't.)

PS: Remind me later, please, to replace the screenshot of the regulations. It's not easy to read. I did a quick Google and found a better quality image. It also came up with the one from our 2021 Fashion on the Ration thread."Be the type of woman that when you get out of bed in the morning, the devil says 'Oh crap. She's up.'
